The photodissociation dynamics of roaming in formaldehyde are studied by comparing quasi-classical trajectory calculations performed on a new potential energy surface (PES) to new and detailed experimental results detailing the CO + H product state distributions and their correlations. The new PES proves to be a significant improvement over the past one, now more than a decade old. The new experiments probe both the CO and H products of the formaldehyde dissociation. The experimental and trajectory data offer unprecedented detail about the correlations between internal states of the CO and H dissociation products as well as information on how these distributions are different for the roaming and transition-state pathways. The data investigated include, for dissociation on the formaldehyde 24 band, (a) the speed distributions for individual vibrational/rotational states of the CO products, providing information about the correlated internal energy distributions of the H product, and (b) the rotational and vibrational distributions for the CO and H products as well as the contributions to each from both the transition state and roaming channels. The agreement between the trajectory and experimental data is quite satisfactory, although minor differences are noted. The general agreement provides support for future use of the experimental techniques and the new PES in understanding the dynamics of photodissociative processes.

The reaction CH3NC ⇌ CH3CN, a model reaction for the study of unimolecular isomerization, is important in astronomy and atmospheric chemistry and has long been studied by numerous experiments and theories. In this work, we report the first full-dimensional accurate potential energy surface (PES) of this reaction by the permutation invariant polynomial-neural network method based on 30 974 points, whose energies are calculated at the CCSD(T)-F12a/AVTZ level. Then, ring polymer molecular dynamics is used to derive the free energy barrier of the reaction at the experimental temperature range of 472.

Full-Dimensional Neural Network Potential Energy Surface for the Photodissociation Dynamics of HNCS in the S band.

J Phys Chem A

Institute of Modern Physics, Shaanxi Key Laboratory for Theoretical Physics Frontiers, Northwest University, Xi'an, Shaanxi 710127, China.

The full-dimensional potential energy surface (PES) for the photodissociation of HNCS in the S(″) electronic state has been built up by the neural network method based on more than 48,000 points, which were calculated at the multireference configuration interaction level with Davidson correction using the augmented correlation consistent polarized valence triple-ζ basis set. It was found that two minima, namely, and isomers of HNCS, and seven stationary points exist on the S PES for the three dissociation pathways: HNCS(S) → H + NCS/HNC + S(D)/HN(Δ) + CS(Σ). The dissociation energies of two lowest product channels H + NCS and HNC + S(D) calculated on the PES are in good agreement with experimental results, validating the high accuracy of the PES.

High-temperature non-equilibrium atom-diatom collisional energy transfer.

The change of the vibrational energy within a molecule after collisions with another molecule plays an essential role in the evolution of molecular internal energy distributions, which is also the limiting process in the relaxation of gases toward equilibrium. Here, we investigate the energy transfer between the translational motion and the vibrational motion of the diatom during the atom-diatom collision, the simplest case involving the transfer between inter-molecular and intra-molecular energies. We are interested in the situation when the translational temperature of the gas is high, in which case, there are significant probabilities for the vibrational energy to change over widely separated energy levels after a collision.

Quantum and quasi-classical dynamics calculations were conducted for the reaction of Si with OH on the latest potential energy surface (PES), which is obtained by fitting tens of thousands of energy points by using the many-body expansion formula. To obtain an accurate PES, all energy points calculated with aug-cc-pVQZ and aug-cc-pV5Z basis sets were extrapolated to the complete basis set limit. The accuracy of our new PES was verified by comparing the topographic characteristics and contour maps of potential energy with other works.
