Optically active phenylene-ethynylene dimers with pyridine groups based on a planar chiral 4,7,12,15-tetrasubstituted [2.2]paracyclophane were synthesized. The chiral conformation was controlled by pyridine-Ag(i) coordinations. After Ag(i) coordination, the resulting higher-ordered structure dramatically enhanced the signal intensity of circular dichroism (CD) and decreased that of circularly polarized luminescence (CPL).

Amphiphilic peptide sequences are conducive to secondary structures that self-assemble into higher-ordered peptide nanostructures. A select set of amphiphilic polycationic peptides displayed stable helical-coiled structures that self-assembled into peptide nanofibers. The progression of peptide fibril formation revealed short protofibrils that extended into thin filaments and into an entangled network of nanofibers over an extended (5 days) incubation period.

Thiazole, as a family of five-membered heteroaromatic rings, is an interesting building unit that can play a role in coplanarizing the backbone as well as deepening the HOMO energy level, which is beneficial for the design of π-conjugated polymers for the photoactive materials in organic photovoltaics (OPVs). Here, we designed and synthesized π-conjugated polymers with simple chemical structures, which consist of 2,2'-bithiazole or 5,5'-bithiazole and alkylthiophenes as the polymer backbone. In fact, the polymers can be easily synthesized in much fewer steps compared to the typical high-performance polymers based on fused heteroaromatic rings.

The real-time monitoring of the stepwise growth process of the molecular crystal reveals a conclusive understanding of the morphological evolution, which otherwise remains elusive during the conventional crystallization processes. Herein, we report the crystallization of silver nanoclusters (AgNCs) with special emphasis on their differential growth and multicolor emissive properties. A subtle variation of the methanol (MeOH) proportion in the reaction mixture induces the differential growth of these AgNCs, and thereby, a dramatic modulation in their optical properties was observed.

Morpheeins are proteins that adapt their morphology and function to the environment. Therefore, their use in nanotechnology opens up the bottom-up preparation of anisotropic metamaterials, based on the sequential use of different stimuli. A prominent member of this family of proteins is peroxiredoxins (Prx), with dual peroxidase and chaperone function, depending on the pH of the media.
