J- and H-aggregates of zinc tetraphenylporphyrin (ZnTPP) on carbon nanotube films (CNTFs) were prepared using the mixed solvent method. This resulted in completely different structures, such as the four-leaf clover and flower, on the CNTF, which were observed by recording SEM images. Characteristic changes in the electronic spectra of the ZnTPP monomer appeared when it underwent J- and H-aggregation. The measured photocurrent significantly varied for the same molecule when it was aggregated in two different ways on ITO and ITO/CNTF. The electron recombination resistance of the two aggregates, which was investigated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, was also different. The photocatalytic efficiency of the J- and H-aggregates was examined by performing methylene blue dye decoloration studies. In addition, a scanning electrochemical microscope was used to investigate the photoinduced charge transfer kinetics of the J- and H-aggregates at the electrode/electrolyte interface as a fresh attempt. The heterogeneous charge transfer constants for the J- and H-aggregates in the presence of light at varied intensities were calculated. Thereby, striking differences in the photophysical, photocatalytic, and photoelectrochemical properties of the J- and H-aggregates were visualized throughout our studies.

The faithful charging of amino acids to cognate tRNAs by aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases (AARSs) determines the fidelity of protein translation. Isoleucyl-tRNA synthetase (IleRS) distinguishes tRNA from tRNA solely based on the nucleotide at wobble position (N34), and a single substitution at N34 could exchange the aminoacylation specificity between two tRNAs. Here, we report the structural and biochemical mechanism of N34 recognition-based tRNA discrimination by Saccharomyces cerevisiae IleRS (ScIleRS).

Crystal symmetry, which governs the local atomic coordination and bonding environment, is one of the paramount constituents that intrinsically dictate materials' functionalities. However, engineering crystal symmetry is not straightforward due to the isotropically strong covalent/ionic bonds in crystals. Layered two-dimensional materials offer an ideal platform for crystal engineering because of the ease of interlayer symmetry operations.

Tightly bound electron-hole pairs (excitons) hosted in atomically-thin semiconductors have emerged as prospective elements in optoelectronic devices for ultrafast and secured information transfer. The controlled exciton transport in such excitonic devices requires manipulating potential energy gradient of charge-neutral excitons, while electrical gating or nanoscale straining have shown limited efficiency of exciton transport at room temperature. Here, we report strain gradient induced exciton transport in monolayer tungsten diselenide (WSe) across microns at room temperature via steady-state pump-probe measurement.

Subjective feelings are thought to arise from conceptual and bodily states. We examine whether the valence of feelings may also be decoded directly from objective ecological statistics of the visual environment. We train a visual valence (VV) machine learning model of low-level image statistics on nearly 8000 emotionally charged photographs.

Concurrent superconductivity and negative photoconductivity (NPC) are rarely observed. Here, the discovery in PbSeTe of superconductivity and photoconductivity transitions between positive photoconductivity (PPC) and NPC during compression is reported to ≈40 GPa and subsequent decompression, which are also accompanied by reversible structure transitions (3D Fm m ⇌ 2D Pnma ⇌ 3D Pm m). Superconductivity with a maximum T of ≈6.
