Adiponectin deficiency prevents chronic colitis-associated colonic fibrosis via inhibiting CXCL13 production.

J Adv Res

December 2024

Hebei Key Laboratory of Natural Products Activity Components and Function, Hebei Normal University of Science and Technology, Qinhuangdao, Hebei 066004, China. Electronic address:

Introduction: Colonic fibrosis is a long-term complication of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), often leading to functional impairment, intestinal obstruction, and surgery. Adiponectin (APN) is an adipokine derived from adipocytes that plays a pleiotropic role in fibrosis regulation, depending on tissue and cell type specific or disease context, but its role in colonic fibrosis remains unclear.

Objective: To explore the role and involved mechanism of APN in chronic colitis-associated colonic fibrosis.

Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis is an incurable disease caused by the environmental mold Aspergillus fumigatus. This hypersensitivity pneumonia is characterized by an inflammatory type 2 immune response, accompanied by influx of eosinophils into the lung. To investigate the mode of action of eosinophils and the signaling events triggered by A.

Metabolic targeting of regulatory T cells in oral squamous cell carcinoma: new horizons in immunotherapy.

Mol Cancer

December 2024

Department of Dental Materials, School and Hospital of Stomatology, China Medical University, Liaoning Provincial Key Laboratory of Oral Diseases, No. 117 Nanjing North Street, Heping District, Shenyang, 110002, Liaoning, China.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a prevalent oral malignancy, which poses significant health risks with a high mortality rate. Regulatory T cells (Tregs), characterized by their immunosuppressive capabilities, are intricately linked to OSCC progression and patient outcomes. The metabolic reprogramming of Tregs within the OSCC tumor microenvironment (TME) underpins their function, with key pathways such as the tryptophan-kynurenine-aryl hydrocarbon receptor, PI3K-Akt-mTOR and nucleotide metabolism significantly contributing to their suppressive activities.

Biphasic Effect of Thyroid Hormone on Megakaryopoiesis and Platelet Production.

Thyroid

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Trauma and Chemical Poisoning, Institute of Combined Injury, Chongqing Engineering Research Center for Nanomedicine, College of Preventive Medicine, Army Medical University (Third Military Medical University), Chongqing, China.

Abnormal platelet counts are frequently observed in patients with thyroid dysfunction; however, the direct impact of thyroid hormones on thrombopoiesis remains largely undefined. This study elucidates the dose-response effect of the thyroid hormone triiodothyronine (T) on megakaryocyte (MK) development and thrombopoiesis using both a murine model of hyperthyroidism/hypothyroidism and cultures of human cord blood CD34 cell-derived MKs. After the application of inhibitors to MKs, the examination of total and phosphorylated protein levels of the phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/AKT pathway was utilized to assess the specific mechanisms of T action.
