Published: July 2017

The synthesis of a set of naphthazarin-containing polycyclic conjugated hydrocarbons is described herein. Sequential Diels-Alder reactions on a tautomerized naphthazarin core were employed to access the final conjugated systems. Complete conjugation across the backbone can be achieved through complexation with BF, as observed by H NMR analysis and UV/vis spectroscopy. Precise synthetic control over the degree of oxidation of naphthazarin quinone Diels-Alder adduct 10 is additionally demonstrated and enables us to direct its subsequent reactivity. Finally, this work serves to demonstrate the potential for naphthazarin as a building block in the synthesis of novel organic electronic materials.

The emergence of self-propelling magnetic nanobots represents a significant advancement in the field of drug delivery. These magneto-nanobots offer precise control over drug targeting and possess the capability to navigate deep into tumor tissues, thereby addressing multiple challenges associated with conventional cancer therapies. Here, Fe-GSH-Protein-Dox, a novel self-propelling magnetic nanobot conjugated with a biocompatible protein surface and loaded with doxorubicin for the treatment of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), is reported.

Poor selectivity to tumor cells is a major drawback in the clinical application of the antitumor drug docetaxel (DTX). Peptide-drug conjugates (PDCs) constructed by modifying antitumor drugs with peptide ligands that have high affinity to certain overexpressed receptors in tumor cells are increasingly assessed for their possibility of tumor-selective drug delivery. In the present research, DTX is condensed with 3-(pyridin-2-yldisulfanyl) propanoic acid via ester bond to obtain the intermediate Py-SS-DTX.

The introduction of 4,5-dihydroazuleno[2,1,8-ija]azulene as a central core between two 1,4-dithiafulvene (DTF) units provides a novel class of extended tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) electron donors. Herein we present the synthesis of such compounds with the azulenoazulene further expanded by annulation to benzene, naphthalene, or thiophene rings. Moreover, unsymmetrical donor-acceptor chromophores with one DTF and one carbonyl at the central core are presented.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a highly lethal cancer. Paclitaxel (PTX), typically administered intravenously (IV) as chemotherapy, shows promise for triggering immunogenic cell death (ICD) and may serve as a potential immunotherapy. This study introduces an oral PTX delivery method using an enteric-coated gelatin capsule containing capric acid oil and an effervescent agent, optionally with decylamine-conjugated β-glucans (DA-βGlus).

Recent work has documented conjugate polycyclic hydrocarbons presenting unusual properties: accepting full on-bond electron pairing, they could be considered as closed-shell architectures, but their ground-state wave function is actually a pure diradical singlet, free of any ionic component, in contrast to diradicaloids. These so-called molecules also differ from disjoint diradicals, which do not accept on-bond electron pairing, in that their singly occupied molecular orbitals (SOMOs) are spatially entangled rather than disjoint. The present work first extends the study to a broad series of architectures exhibiting the same properties, namely: they present two degenerate SOMOs in the topological Hückel Hamiltonian, and their pure diradical wave functions lead to symmetry-keeping geometries.
