Introduction:  Polypoid lesions of the gallbladder (PLG) are relatively common in adults, while they are very rare in children. The use of high-quality ultrasonography leads to increased detection of PLG, although less than 20 pediatric cases of primary PLG have been reported in the literature. The aim of this study was to address the experience of PLG management in children.

Materials And Methods:  A retrospective multicenter review of children with ultrasonographically defined PLG between 2006 and 2016 was performed. The data from 12 pediatric surgery centers were compiled for this purpose.

Results:  Eighteen patients (mean age: 10.4 ± 4.1 years) were included and managed according to each center's protocols. Cholecystectomy was performed for nine symptomatic patients. Histopathology conclusively revealed four tubular and five papillary adenomas, with a median size of 12 mm (ranging from 3 to 35 mm). Nine asymptomatic children were monitored by sonography over a 24-month (ranging from 12 to 66 months) follow-up period. The median PLG size was 7 mm (ranging from 3 to 9 mm). Two lesions disappeared after 1 and 2 years of follow-up, respectively. None of the patients developed symptoms or malignant transformation.

Conclusion:  This report confirms appropriate use of a conservative approach with annual clinical and ultrasound follow-up for small-sized and isolated PLG in children given the absence of malignancy and potential vanishing entities. Surgical treatment should be considered in case of lesions larger than 10 mm in size or when they are associated with symptoms.

This study investigates the pollen morphology of 13 taxa of Turkish Gentiana using a statistical approach, contributing to their taxonomy. The aim is to elucidate the palynological characteristics of the taxa and to reveal their contributions to the systematic understanding of the genus Gentiana. The pollen grains are monad, radially symmetrical, isopolar, and tricolporate.

Age-related muscle wasting, sarcopenia is an extensive loss of muscle mass and strength with age and a major cause of disability and accidents in the elderly. Mechanisms purported to be involved in muscle ageing and sarcopenia are numerous but poorly understood, necessitating deeper study. Hence, we employed high-throughput RNA sequencing to survey the global changes in protein-coding gene expression occurring in skeletal muscle with age.

Background: Bacteraemia and infective endocarditis (IE) are rare but severe complications of transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI). Limited data exist on the incidence and microbiological profile of early bacteraemia in this population. This study aimed to evaluate the 6-month incidence of bacteraemia, IE and associated mortality following TAVI.

Oligogenic risk score for Gilles de la Tourette syndrome reveals a genetic continuum of tic disorders.

Department of Neurogenetics and Functional Genomics, Mossakowski Medical Research Institute, Polish Academy of Sciences, Pawińskiego 5, 02-106, Warsaw, Poland.

Gilles de la Tourette syndrome (GTS) and other tic disorders (TDs) have a substantial genetic component with their heritability estimated at between 60 and 80%. Here we propose an oligogenic risk score of TDs using whole-genome sequencing (WGS) data from a group of Polish GTS patients, their families, and control samples (n = 278). In this study, we first reviewed the literature to obtain a preliminary list of 84 GTS/TD candidate genes.

Background: High-density lipoprotein (HDL) modulates the blood-brain barrier and cerebrovascular integrity, likely influencing the risk of Alzheimer's disease (AD), neurodegeneration, and cognitive decline.

Objective: This study aims to identify HDL protein cargo associated with brain amyloid deposition and brain volume in regions vulnerable to AD pathology in older adults.

Methods: HDL was separated from the plasma of 65 non-demented participants of the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) study using a fast protein liquid chromatography method.
