The full strain and stress tensor determination in a triaxially stressed single crystal using X-ray diffraction requires a series of lattice spacing measurements at different crystal orientations. This can be achieved using a tunable X-ray source. This article reports on a novel experimental procedure for single-shot full strain tensor determination using polychromatic synchrotron radiation with an energy range from 5 to 23 keV. Microbeam X-ray Laue diffraction patterns were collected from a copper micro-bending beam along the central axis (centroid of the cross section). Taking advantage of a two-dimensional energy-dispersive X-ray detector (pnCCD), the position and energy of the collected Laue spots were measured for multiple positions on the sample, allowing the measurement of variations in the local microstructure. At the same time, both the deviatoric and hydrostatic components of the elastic strain and stress tensors were calculated.

When rendering the visual scene for near-eye head-mounted displays, accurate knowledge of the geometry of the displays, scene objects, and eyes is required for the correct generation of the binocular images. Despite possible design and calibration efforts, these quantities are subject to positional and measurement errors, resulting in some misalignment of the images projected to each eye. Previous research investigated the effects in virtual reality (VR) setups that triggered such symptoms as eye strain and nausea.

Human respiratory and enteric viruses are responsible for substantial morbidity and mortality worldwide. Wastewater-based epidemiology utilizing next-generation sequencing serves as an effective tool for monitoring viral circulation dynamics at the community level. However, these complex environmental samples are often laden with other microorganisms and host genomic material, which can hinder the sensitivity of viral detection.

Background: Our lab recently developed 2 mouse monoclonal antibodies that preferentially react with "distressed astrocytes". One monoclonal, 26A6, was found to react preferentially with a form of the Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein phosphatase, calcineurin (CN), that has been cleaved by calpain, to generate a 48 kDa CN fragment (∆CN). We recently published a characterization of this antibody.

Background: The growing number of people living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) has led to an increased interest in the experiences of informal caregivers. Effective instruments to measure both negative and positive aspects of caregiving and validated with diverse caregiver populations, are needed to inform the design and evaluation of targeted interventions. This study (a) reviews extant literature on instruments developed to measure the range of roles and experiences of unpaid caregivers of people living with ADRD, (b) describes characteristics of the populations used to validate these instruments, and (c) discusses the usefulness, applicability, and generalizability of current measures METHOD: A scoping review was performed following the methodological framework of Aromataris and Munn (2020).

Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) are a promising choice for cryoprotection of lactic acid bacteria (LAB). However, the mechanism by which this protection takes place is not well understood. Molecular simulation is a key tool for gathering insights into complex physicochemical problems like this.
