Uncontrolled haemorrhage is one of the leading causes of death. This issue is present in controlled environments, such as hospitals, as well as pre-hospital and remote locations. Treatment is more challenging in remote locations where there is a lack of effective products to deliver oxygen and control coagulation. Poorly treated haemorrhage can lead to rapidly deteriorating bodily conditions that can result in organ failure and tissue death. Thus, the availability of products to support oxygen delivery to tissues and coagulation processes within the body is essential for the effective treatment of severe haemorrhage, particularly in out-of-the-hospital settings. The presence of such products would fill the gap that is currently present in emergency treatment. Promising results of an ex-vivo study on a novel haemoglobin-based oxygen carrier OxyVitaC with coagulation capacity (OVCCC) are presented in this article. The proprietary protein protection technology allows for the powderization of protein components without changes in their characteristics and physiological activity. This technology was applied to the oxygen carrier OxyVitaC, to plasma and to platelets. The functionality of all tested components, as well as a mixture of OxyVitaC and platelets, was studied. The results suggest future clinical trials investigating the powderization of OVCCC, plasma and platelets are warranted. The development of this powderization method offers a huge advancement into a field in which no viable products exist.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disease that is significantly characterized by cognitive and memory impairments, which worsen significantly with age. In the late stages of AD, metal ion disorders and an imbalance of reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels occur in the brain microenvironment, which causes abnormal aggregation of β-amyloid (Aβ), leading to a significant worsening of the AD symptoms. Therefore, we designed a composite nanomaterial of macrophage membranes-encapsulated Prussian blue nanoparticles (PB NPs/MM).

Radiodynamic therapy that employs X-rays to trigger localized reactive oxygen species (ROS) generation can tackle the tissue penetration issue of phototherapy. Although calcium tungstate (CaWO) shows great potential as a radiodynamic agent benefiting from its strong X-ray absorption and the ability to generate electron-hole (e-h) pairs, slow charge carrier transfer and fast e-h recombination greatly limit its ROS-generating performance. Herein, via a one-pot wet-chemical method, oxygen vacancy-rich amorphous/crystalline heterophase CaWO nanoparticles (Ov-a/c-CaWO NPs) with enhanced radiodynamic effect are synthesized for radiodynamic-immunotherapy of cancer.

pH changes occur during bodily lesions, presenting an opportunity for leveraging pH-responsive delivery systems as signals for a targeted response. This review explores the design and application of pH-responsive delivery systems based on natural polysaccharides for the controlled release of bioactives. The article examines the development of diverse delivery carriers, including nanoparticles, nanofibers, nanogels, core-shell carriers, hydrogels, emulsions as well as liposomes and their capacity to respond to pH variations, enabling the precise and targeted delivery of bioactives within the human body.

Chronic diabetic wound poses a pressing global healthcare challenge, necessitating an approach to address issues such as pathogenic bacteria elimination, blood sugar regulation, and angiogenesis stimulation. Herein, we engineered a BiWO@CuO-GOx bio-heterojunction (BWCG bio-HJ) with exceptional cascade catalytic performance and impressive sonosensitivity to remodel the wound microenvironment and expedite the diabetic wound healing. Specifically, the Z-scheme junctions of BiWO@CuO significantly augmented carrier separation dynamics, leading to the highly efficient generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) upon US irradiations.

Oral squamous-cell carcinoma (OSCC) poses significant treatment challenges due to its high recurrence rates and the limitations of current therapies. Titanium dioxide (TiO) nanoparticles are promising radiosensitizers, while bacterial outer membrane vesicles (OMVs) are known for their immunomodulatory properties. This study investigates the potential of OMV-encapsulated TiO nanoparticles (TiO@OMV) to combine these effects for improved OSCC treatment.
