Reducing the risk of urethral strictures after transurethral surgery for patients with bladder cancer requires effective strategies. We compared the clinical outcomes of a novel drug-injectable urethral catheter set (NIUS) with hyaluronic acid (HA) with those of the conventional intraurethral HA injection method. This six-center, prospective, randomized, single-blind trial included 192 male patients aged ≥ 20 years scheduled to undergo transurethral surgery.

Article Synopsis
  • The review discusses current treatment methods and strategies for managing lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) linked to treatments like transurethral resection and intravesical therapy.
  • Recent findings highlight that while there's limited research, some oral agents and new therapies show promise in alleviating LUTS associated with intravesical treatments, such as phenazopyridine and beta-3 agonists.
  • The review emphasizes the need for more research to validate these treatments and to develop effective strategies for managing LUTS in patients undergoing various intravesical therapy regimens.

Tissue gliding and mobility are paramount to the success of penile procedures. While postoperative healing is intended to protect, repair, and nourish injured tissues, an overzealous response often leaves painful and debilitating tethering between the corpora, including nerves, and surrounding tissues. This tethering interferes with the intended outcomes of surgery by preventing necessary gliding.

Fundamentals of Viscoelastic Particle Focusing in Suddenly Expanded Microfluidic Channels.

Electrophoresis

December 2024

School of Mechanical Engineering, and Jiangsu Key Laboratory for Design and Manufacture of Micro-Nano Biomedical Instruments, Southeast University, Nanjing, China.

Particles focusing in suddenly expanded microfluidic channels with viscoelastic biofluids have attracted increased interests due to the potential biomedical applications. In this work, three types of suddenly expanded channels were designed and employed for experiments. These suddenly expanded channels contained a certain number of triangular expansion structures on the sides of the straight channel to investigate the effect of secondary flow on particle viscoelastic focusing and we investigated particle focusing behavior in those three channels with 0.
