Symmetric electron-positron plasmas in inhomogeneous magnetic fields are intrinsically subject to interchange instability and transport. Scaling relations for the propagation velocity of density perturbations relevant to transport in isothermal magnetically confined electron-positron plasmas are deduced, including damping effects when Debye lengths are large compared to Larmor radii. The relations are verified by nonlinear full-F gyrofluid computations. Results are analyzed with respect to planned magnetically confined electron-positron plasma experiments. The model is generalized to other matter-antimatter plasmas. Magnetized electron-positron-proton-antiproton plasmas are susceptible to interchange-driven local matter-antimatter separation, which can impede sustained laboratory magnetic confinement.

Background: Short-term results after arthroscopic/endoscopic lateral ligament repair for chronic lateral ankle instability have been satisfactory, although medium- to longer-term results are lacking.
Purpose/hypothesis: The purpose of this study was to report the medium-term results of an all-inside endoscopic classic Bröstrom-Gould procedure where both the both lateral ligaments and the inferior extensor retinaculum can be approached directly, interchanging between arthroscopy for intracapsular structures and endoscopy for extracapsular structures. It was hypothesized that the all-inside endoscopic classic Bröstrom-Gould procedure would produce sustainable good outcomes at a medium term of 5 years.

Background: Haemodynamic instability is common after surgical repair of CHDs in infants and children. Monitoring cardiac output in addition to traditional circulation parameters could improve the postoperative care of these patients. Echocardiography and transpulmonary thermodilution are the two most common methods for measuring cardiac output in infants.

To examine the robustness of the designed 5% β limit for high-performance operation in the W7-X stellarator, we undertake nonlinear magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulations of pressure-driven instabilities using the m3d-c1 code. Consistent with linear analyses, ideal ballooning instabilities occur as β exceeds 5% in the standard configuration. Nonetheless, the modes saturate nonlinearly at relatively low levels without triggering large-scale crashes, even though confinement degradation worsens as β increases.

Introduction: High-tech devices for the assessment of dry eye disease (DED) are increasingly available. However, the agreement between high- and low-tech parameters has been poorly explored to date. Trying to fill these gaps, we conducted a post hoc analysis on a recently published retrospective study on patients with DED receiving both low- and high-tech (Keratograph) assessments, and treatment with different lubricating eyedrops.

Mechanical metamaterials with integrated functionalities can simultaneously fulfill multiple design requirements through design consolidation, which is highly desirable for weight-sensitive and space-constrained applications. Despite the extensive research on multistable metamaterials, their integration with other functionalities, such as vibration isolation, sensing, and hierarchical energy absorption, remains largely untapped. Here, we report a novel class of mechanical metamaterial featuring programmable multistability and function-oriented multitransition behaviors.
