A simple and low cost detection of l-cysteine is essential in the fields of biosensors and medical diagnosis. In this study, we have developed a simple electrospinning, followed by calcination process to prepare FeCo nanoparticles embedded in carbon nanofibers (FeCo-CNFs) as an efficient peroxidase-like mimic for the detection of l-cysteine. FeCo nanoparticles are uniformly dispersed within CNFs, and their diameters are highly influenced by the calcination temperature. The calcination temperature also influences the peroxidase-like catalytic activity, and the maximum activity is achieved at a calcination temperature of 550 °C. Owing to the high catalytic activity of the as-prepared FeCo-CNFs, a colorimetric technique for the rapid and accurate determination of l-cysteine has been developed. The detection limit is about 0.15 μM with a wide linear range from 1 to 20 μM. In addition, a high selectivity for the detection of l-cysteine over other amino acids, glucose and common ions is achieved. This study provides a simple, rapid and sensitive sensing platform for the detection of l-cysteine, which is a promising candidate for potential applications in biosensing, medicine, environmental monitoring.

Objectives: To evaluate the protective effect of cystatin (r-Cystatin) in a mouse mode of "two-hit" sepsis.

Methods: Sixty male C57BL/6 mice randomized equally into sham-operated group, protein group, "two-hit" modeling group, and protein intervention group. In the former two groups, the mice received an intraperitoneal injection of 100 μL PBS followed by exposure of the cecum and then by intraperitoneal injection of 100 μL PBS or 25 μg r-Cystatin 30 min later; In the latter two groups, 100 μL PBS containing LPS (5 mg/kg) was injected intraperitoneally 24 h before cecal ligation and puncture (CLP), and 100 μL PBS or 25 μg r-Cystatin were injected 30 min after CLP.

The elementary mechanism and site studies of nanozyme-based inhibition reactions are ambiguous and urgently require advanced nanozymes as mediators to elucidate the inhibition effect. To this end, we develop a class of nanozymes featuring single Cu-N catalytic configurations and B-O sites as binding configurations on a porous nitrogen-doped carbon substrate (B/Cu) for inducing modulable inhibition transfer at the atomic level. The full redistribution of electrons across the Cu-N sites, induced by B-O sites incorporation, yields B/Cu with enhanced peroxidase-like activity versus Cu.
