A base-promoted, secondary alkylation of N-heteroaromatic N-oxides using internal gem-bis[(pinacolato)boryl]alkanes as alkylation reagents is reported. The reaction exhibits a broad scope, providing deoxygenated secondary alkylated N-heteroaromatic compounds with high efficiency. The usefulness of the developed protocol is evidenced by the sequential direct alkylation of 2,2'-bipyridine-N-oxide.

An atmospheric oxygen-mediated oxidative coupling of primary and secondary alcohols for the synthesis of nitrogen-containing heterocycles has been developed. This method utilizes atmospheric oxygen as the sole, environmentally friendly oxidant to convert a variety of alkyl and aromatic primary alcohols into aldehyde equivalents, avoiding over-oxidation to carboxylic acids. Notably, these mild oxidation conditions are compatible with both primary and secondary alkyl alcohols as substrates.

Glioblastoma (GBM), the most prevalent primary malignant brain tumor, remains challenging to treat due to extensive inter- and intra-tumor heterogeneity. This variability demands combination treatments to improve therapeutic outcomes. A significant obstacle in treating GBM is the expression of O-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase, a DNA repair enzyme that reduces the efficacy of the standard alkylating agent, temozolomide, in about 50% of patients.

-Difluorohomoallyl amines, an important class of -difluoroalkenes, are prevalent moieties in many bioactive compounds. However, limited methods are suitable for the synthesis of this type of compound containing secondary amines. Here, we display a photocatalytic multicomponent protocol for the synthesis of -difluoroalkenes containing secondary amines, which makes use of readily available materials: arylamines, alkyl aldehydes, and α-trifluoromethyl alkenes.
