Traditional chemotherapic agents as antraciclines and radiumtherapy are known to be the cause of cardiovascular complications from many years. Nevertheless also recent drugs, which were initially considered effective only on cancer cells are now recognized to exert negative effects also on the cardiovascular system. The frequency and the entity of the effects are variable for each drug and depend from the clinical status of the patient. Connective tissue disorders are known to cause cardiac and vascular complications. We present the case of a 37-year-old female patient with a rare Ehlers Danlos/Osteogenesis Imperfecta Overlap Syndrome, referred to cardiac surgery with aortic valve regurgitation, who underwent a successful Biological Surgical Aortic Valve Replacement (SAVR). A multidisciplinary, patient-centered, heart-team approach is essential in managing patients with rare genetic disorders to optimize postoperative outcomes.

The totality of evidence suggests that there remains a significant disparity in the use of left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) and heart transplantation (HT) in women. This disparity persists even after accounting for differences in baseline characteristics, comorbidities, and cardiovascular risk factors between men and women undergoing LVAD implantation as a bridge to HT. Generally, women are less likely to undergo HT, leading to a higher mortality rate in women on the HT waiting list.
