Liquid-phase radioimmunoassay (LPRIA) and solid-phase radioimmunoassay (SPRIA) are described utilizing either 125I-labelled or immobilized nucleocapsids (NC) of herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1). These techniques appeared sensitive and specific for quantification of HSV-NC antigens and corresponding antibodies.

An evaluation of morbidity and mortality in Steller sea lions (SSLs) Eumetopias jubatus under professional care identified a high prevalence of thyroid disease in aged animals. While studies have investigated the effects of age, season, nutrition, stressors, and pollutants on thyroid hormones in pinnipeds, data from individuals with known thyroid disease are lacking. Histopathological reports of adult SSLs in North American aquariums from 1979 to 2022 with banked serum (n = 14) were reviewed.

Background: Paraquat (N, N-dimethyl-4,4-bipyridinium dichloride) is a nonselective, fast-acting, and contact chemical herbicide used extensively for weed control. It has high acute oral toxicity, the ability to accumulate in the lungs, and a high potential for pulmonary fibrosis after its intoxication. The present systematic review focuses on evaluating diagnostic aspects of paraquat (PQ) in forensic toxicology.

Background/objective: Myasthenia Gravis (MG) is an autoimmune disorder characterized by pathogenic autoantibodies (AAbs) targeting nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (AChR), disrupting neuromuscular communication. RadioImmunoPrecipitation Assay (RIPA) is recommended to detect AChR AAbs, but its complexity and radioactive requirements limit widespread use. We compare non-RIPA anti-AChR immunoassays, including Cell-Based Assay (CBA) and two ELISA kits, against the gold standard RIPA.

Since the focus in regulatory toxicology has drifted toward the identification of endocrine disruptors, the improvement in determination of alterations in the thyroid hormone system has become more important. THs are involved in several molecular processes important for a proper pre- and postnatal development so that disturbances can inter alia lead to incorrect brain maturation and/or disturbed metabolic processes (thermogenesis or lipolysis). In this publication, a new automated online solid-phase extraction (SPE)-liquid chromatography (LC)-tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS, xLC-MS/MS) is introduced which simultaneously analyzes total T4, T3, rT3, T2, and T1.

Civil aviation flight crew and civil aviation air traffic controllers are prone to circadian rhythm abnormalities, which can lead to a slew of other maladies. It could endanger people's health and provide a serious threat to the safety of civil aviation flights if it is not appropriately evaluated and addressed. Early detection of rhythm irregularities and prompt treatment for particular populations that are vulnerable to rhythm disorders are crucial for enhancing civil aviation safety.
