Studies on the effects of the long-term intake of -resveratrol on vascular function are conflicting. In addition, postprandial effects of long-term resveratrol intake on endothelial function are not known. We therefore supplemented 45 overweight and slightly obese volunteers (25 men and 20 women) with a mean (±SD) age of 61 ± 7 years and body mass index of 28.3 ± 3.2 kg/m² in random order -resveratrol (2 × 75 mg/day) or placebo capsules for 4 weeks, separated by a washout period of at least 4 weeks. At the end of each intervention period, brachial artery flow-mediated vasodilation (FMD) was measured before and after meal consumption. Plasma biomarkers for endothelial function, inflammation, and glucose and lipid metabolism were also determined. Compared with the placebo, -resveratrol did not affect fasting FMD (2.9 ± 1.4% vs. 3.0 ± 1.9%; = 0.69). After the postprandial test, changes in FMD (-0.7 ± 2.3% vs. 0.2 ± 2.6%; = 0.13) were also not significantly different. Postprandial changes in biomarkers were also comparable. In conclusion, for overweight and slightly obese volunteers, a daily intake of 150 mg of -resveratrol for 4 weeks does not change plasma biomarkers of endothelial function or inflammation in the fasting state or postprandial phase.

Hypoxia Combined With Interleukin-17 Regulates Hypoxia-Inducible Factor-1α/Endothelial Nitric Oxide Synthase Expression in Pulmonary Artery Endothelial Cells.

The pathogenesis of chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension may be multifactorial and requires further studies. We explored alterations in pulmonary artery endothelial cells under the hypoxic and elevated interleukin-17 conditions that are commonly present in patients with chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. We measured the serum interleukin-17 levels in 10 chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension patients and 10 healthy control persons.

Cellular Senescence Genes as Cutting-Edge Signatures for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Diagnosis: Potential for Innovative Therapeutic Interventions.

State Key Laboratory of Frigid Zone Cardiovascular Diseases, Cardiovascular Research Institute and Department of Cardiology, General Hospital of Northern Theater Command, Shenyang, China.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is the most prevalent dilated arterial aneurysm that poses a significant threat to older adults, but the molecular mechanisms linking senescence to AAA progression remain poorly understood. This study aims to identify cellular senescence-related genes (SRGs) implicated in AAA development and assess their potential as therapeutic targets. Four hundred and twenty-nine differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were identified from the GSE57691 training set, and 867 SRGs were obtained.

Disruption of developmental processes affecting the fetal lung leads to pulmonary hypoplasia. Pulmonary hypoplasia results from several conditions including congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) and oligohydramnios. Both entities have high morbidity and mortality, and no effective therapy that fully restores normal lung development.

Negative Pressure Ventilation Ex-Situ Lung Perfusion Preserves Porcine and Human Lungs for 36-Hours.

Division of Cardiac Surgery, Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada.

Introduction: Preclinically, 24-hour continuous Ex-Situ Lung Perfusion (ESLP) is the longest duration achieved in large animal models and rejected human lungs. Here, we present our 36-hour Negative Pressure Ventilation (NPV)-ESLP protocol applied to porcine and rejected human lungs.

Methods: Five sets of donor domestic pig lungs (45-55 kg) underwent 36-hour NPV-ESLP.

Bacterial colonisation in hypertrophic scars (HSs) has been reported, yet the precise mechanism of their contribution to scar formation remains elusive. To address this, we examined HS and normal skin (NS) tissues through Gram staining and immunofluorescence. We co-cultured fibroblasts with heat-inactivated Staphylococcus aureus (S.
