The salmon louse, , is an endemic ectoparasite on salmonid fish that is challenging for the salmon farming industry and wild fish. Salmon lice produce high numbers of offspring, necessitating sequestration of large amounts of lipids into growing oocytes as a major energy source for larvae, most probably mediated by lipoproteins. The microsomal triglyceride transfer protein (MTP) is essential for the assembly of lipoproteins. Salmon lice have three MTP () transcript variants encoding two different protein isoforms, which are predicted to contain three β-sheets (N, C, and A) and a central helical domain, similar to MTPs from other species. In adult females, the LsMTPs are differently transcribed in the sub-cuticular tissues, the intestine, the ovary, and in the mature eggs. RNA interference-mediated knockdown of in mature females gave offspring with significantly fewer neutral lipids in their yolk and only 10-30% survival. The present study suggests the importance of LsMTP in reproduction and lipid metabolism in adult female , a possible metabolic bottleneck that could be exploited for the development of new anti-parasitic treatment methods.

Purpose Of Review: Homozygous familial hypercholesterolaemia (HoFH) is characterized by marked elevation of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDLC) and premature atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. This is a review of novel pharmacological therapies to lower LDLC in patients with HoFH.
Recent Findings: Novel therapies can be broadly divided by whether their efficacy is dependent or independent of residual low-density lipoprotein receptor (LDLR) function.

Introduction: Postpartum dairy cows are susceptible to negative energy balance caused by decreased feed intake and the initiation of lactation. Sijunzi San, a famous Chinese traditional herbal formulation, can promote gastrointestinal digestion and absorption and improve disorders of intestinal microbiota. Therefore, we hypothesized that Sijunzi San might alleviate negative energy balance in postpartum dairy cows by modulating the structure of the rumen microbiota and enhancing its fermentation capacity.

Microsomal triglyceride transfer protein (MTP) plays crucial roles in the assembly and secretion of apolipoprotein B-containing lipoproteins and loss of function MTP variants are associated with abetalipoproteinemia, a disease characterized by the absence of these lipoproteins. MTP is a heterodimeric protein of two subunits, MTP and protein disulfide isomerase (PDI). In this study, we report a proband with abetalipoproteinemia who was monitored annually for 10 years in her third decade and had very low plasma lipids and undetectable apoB-containing lipoproteins.

Vitamin A is an essential nutrient crucial to ensuring proper mammalian embryonic development. β-Carotene is the most prevalent form of vitamin A in food that, when transferred in its intact form from mother to the developing tissues, can serve as an in situ source of retinoic acid, the active form of vitamin A. We have previously provided evidence that the maternal-fetal transfer of β-carotene across the placenta is mediated by lipoproteins and that β-carotene itself regulates placenta lipoprotein biogenesis by means of its derivatives β-apo-10'-carotenoids and retinoic acid.
