The 'African eye worm', also known as Loa loa, is filarial nematode that is commonly, transmitted by deer flies. A history of recent travel to endemic countries near western, Africa is common in patients with Loiasis. While a majority of patients infected with Loa, loa are asymptomatic, common presentations of Loiasis include localized areas of, edema, Calbar swellings, and ocular symptoms secondary to the migration of worms, through the spaces within the eye.

Ocular loasis refers to ocular conditions such as pain and redness caused by the movement of the nematode through the subconjuctival space of the eye. It is a tropical disease that is very rarely seen in North America. We report the case of a 32-year-old male who was recently diagnosed with ocular loasis in the Midwestern region of the United States.

Background: The progress of mass, community-directed, treatment with ivermectin (CDTI) for onchocerciasis control was disrupted by severe adverse effects (SAE) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The study aimed at determining the frequency of post-CDTI SAE as well as factors associated with the occurrence of SAE.
Methods: Our retrospective study relied on SAE collection cards, as archived by the DRC Ministry of Health, and compiled for people who benefited from ivermectin treatment then further developed SAE.
A 9-year-old girl from Equatorial Guinea presented to the emergency department complaining of foreign body sensation in her right eye. A thin and large, translucent, slowly moving, coiled worm was observed underneath the conjunctiva. Anterior segment optical coherence tomography revealed hyperreflective small areas surrounded by larger hyporeflective areas into the subconjunctival space.
