Scoliosis in children with arthrogryposis occurs in the minority of patients, but appears early, often present at birth. Curves can progress quickly. Treatment options include spine casting, bracing, expandable implant surgery, and spinal fusion. The goal is to allow as much chest growth and development as possible, along with a resulting well-balanced spine.

Background: Previous studies have shown that bone mineral density (BMD) has a certain impact on scoliosis. However, up to now, there is no clear evidence that there is a causal association between the two. The aim of this study is to investigate whether there is a causal association between BMD at different body positions and scoliosis by two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR).

Objective: The objective of this study was to compare a multiple pelvic screw fixation strategy (dual bilateral 4 pelvic screw fixation [4PvS]) with the use of single bilateral 2 pelvic screw fixation (2PvS), with the aim of addressing lumbosacral junction stability.

Methods: This analysis is a single-center, retrospective review of ASD patients treated between 2015 and 2021. All patients had a minimum 2-year follow-up and spinal fusion to the sacrum without sacroiliac fusion and met at least one radiographic and procedural criterion: pelvic incidence-lumbar lordosis ≥ 20°, T1 pelvic angle ≥ 20°, sagittal vertical axis ≥ 7.

Background: Prune belly syndrome (PBS) is a rare condition characterized by absence of abdominal musculature, cryptorchidism, and obstructive uropathy. The most common orthopaedic problem is scoliosis, yet no reports on growth-friendly surgical treatment of early-onset scoliosis (EOS) exist. Our purpose was to evaluate outcomes of distraction-based implants in children with PBS.

Objective: This study aims to introduce a two-stage surgical procedure, namely oblique lateral interbody fusion (OLIF), for spinal disorders treatment. Furthermore, clinical outcomes and imaging results are analyzed between OLIF with posterior fixation and posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) with fixation for lumbosacral curve-driven degenerative lumbar scoliosis (DLS).

Methods: 146 patients with type 2 DLS who underwent OLIF or PLIF between January 2019 and November 2023 were included.

Background: Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) stands as the predominant spinal deformity in adolescents, manifesting symptoms including back pain, functional limitations, cosmetic worries, and respiratory dysfunction. At present, six approaches of scoliosis-specific exercises are globally practiced, encompassing Schroth exercise, the Scientific Exercise Approach to Scoliosis (SEAS), the Dobomed, the side shift exercise, active self-correction, and the Functional Individual Therapy of Scoliosis (FITS). However, there is no systematic review and meta-analysis comparing the efficacy of these six types of scoliosis-specific exercises on adolescent idiopathic scoliosis.
