Photodynamic therapy (PDT), a local cancer treatment using photosensitizers, has been reported to enhance antitumor immune responses by inducing immunogenic cell death. Although several studies have demonstrated the synergistic antitumor effects of PDT and immune checkpoint blockage (ICB), the detailed underlying mechanisms remain poorly understood. In this study, we investigated the immunological effects of PDT with talaporfin (Tal-PDT), a clinically approved photosensitizer, using bilateral tumor-bearing mouse models.

Photothermal treatment has attracted immense interest as a promising approach for biomedical applications such as cancer ablation, yet its effectiveness is often limited by insufficient laser penetration and challenges in achieving efficient targeting of photothermal agents. Here we developed a transvascular interventional photothermal therapy (Ti-PTT), which employed a small-sized microcatheter (outer diameter: 0.60 mm, 1.

Vancomycin causes kidney injury by accumulating in the proximal tubule, likely mediated by megalin uptake. Protamine is a putative megalin inhibitor that shares binding sites with heparin and is approved for the treatment of heparin overdose. We employed a well-characterized Sprague-Dawley rat model to assess kidney injury and function in animals that received vancomycin, protamine alone, or vancomycin plus protamine over 5 days.

Background And Aims: Gastrointestinal motility persists when peripheral cholinergic signaling is blocked genetically or pharmacologically, and a recent study suggests nitric oxide drives propagating neurogenic contractions.
Methods: To determine the neuronal substrates that underlie these contractions, we measured contractile-associated movements together with calcium responses of cholinergic or nitrergic myenteric neurons in un-paralyzed ex vivo preparations of whole mouse colon. We chose to look at these two subpopulations because they encompass nearly all myenteric neurons.
Introduction: Mu-opioid receptors (MORs) are G-coupled protein receptors with a high affinity for both endogenous and exogenous opioids. MORs are widely expressed in the central nervous system (CNS), peripheral organs, and the immune system. They mediate pain and reward and have been implicated in the pathophysiology of opioid, cocaine, and other substance use disorders.
