Hunter syndrome (or mucopolysaccharidosis type II, MPS II) is an X-linked recessive disorder induced by a deficiency of the iduronate 2-sulfatase (IDS) enzyme, resulting in the accumulation of glycosaminoglycan substrates, heparan sulfate and dermatan sulfate, in the lysosomes. The progressive accumulation of undegraded metabolites induces cell and tissue dysfunction, leading to multi-systemic pathology. The heterogeneity of clinical phenotypes, ranging from mild to severe forms, results from different mutations in the gene. To date, >550 MPS II causal mutations have been reported in the gene, of which ~10% are nonsense mutations that lead to premature protein termination. In the present study, the IDS mutation causing MPS II in an extended Thai family was identified using IDS enzyme assay and IDS gene exon sequencing. Three family members were enzymatically confirmed to have MPS II and to carry the novel IDS nonsense allele c.928C>T (p.Gln310*). The IDS mRNA levels were evaluated by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction, which demonstrated that all patients exhibited a reduction of IDS mRNA, suggesting its degradation by nonsense-mediated mRNA decay. Expression of wild type and mutant IDS in COS-7 cells revealed that the IDS p.Gln310* mutant lacked IDS activity, consistent with production of a nonfunctional, prematurely truncated protein. Taken together, these results indicate that the IDS c.928C>T (p.Gln310*) mutation is a severe disease-causing mutation for MPS II.

In this work, a theoretical approach is developed to investigate the structural properties of ionic microgels induced by a circularly polarized (CP) electric field. Following a similar study on chain formation in the presence of linearly polarized fields [T. Colla , , 2018, , 4321-4337], we propose an effective potential between microgels which incorporates the field-induced interactions a static, time averaged polarizing charge at the particle surface.

A superresolution (SR) method for the reconstruction of Navier-Stokes (NS) flows from noisy observations is presented. In the SR method, first the observation data are averaged over a coarse grid to reduce the noise at the expense of losing resolution and, then, a dynamic observer is employed to reconstruct the flow field by reversing back the lost information. We provide a theoretical analysis, which indicates a chaos synchronization of the SR observer with the reference NS flow.

The tetragonal heavy-fermion superconductor CeRh_{2}As_{2} (T_{c}=0.3 K) exhibits an exceptionally high critical field of 14 T for B∥c. It undergoes a field-driven first-order phase transition between superconducting states, potentially transitioning from spin-singlet to spin-triplet superconductivity.

We observe divergent temperature-dependent magnetic resonance relaxation behaviors across various brine-saturated porous materials. The paramagnetic and diamagnetic nature of the samples underlies these divergent behaviors. The temperature-dependent trends of the longitudinal T_{1} and transverse T_{2} relaxation times are systematically explained via distinct relaxation-diffusion regimes of Brownstein-Tarr theory.

The spin-exotic hybrid meson π_{1}(1600) is predicted to have a large decay rate to the ωππ final state. Using 76.6 pb^{-1} of data collected with the GlueX detector, we measure the cross sections for the reactions γp→ωπ^{+}π^{-}p, γp→ωπ^{0}π^{0}p, and γp→ωπ^{-}π^{0}Δ^{++} in the range E_{γ}=8-10 GeV.
