An antibacterial cyclic AS-48 protein was chemically synthesized by α-ketoacid-hydroxylamine (KAHA) ligation. Initial challenges associated with the exceptionally hydrophobic segments arising from the amphiphilic nature of the protein were resolved by the development of bespoke reaction conditions for hydrophobic segments, using hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP) as a co-solvent. The synthetic protein displays similar biological activity and properties to those of the native protein. To support the current understanding of its antibacterial mode of action, we demonstrate the ability of AS-48 to be incorporated into synthetic multilamellar vesicles (MLVs).

We have successfully designed and assembled a 66-member library of protein tyrosine phosphatases (PTP) inhibitor candidates using α-ketoacid-hydroxylamine (KAHA) ligation. Subsequent in situ enzymatic screening revealed a potent hit (IC = 1.67 μM) against PTP1B, which displayed 6.

Venous leg ulcers have impact on people's lives far beyond that of a skin lesion but these impacts have not been explored from an Indigenous perspective. We used a Māori-centered narrative approach to interview 13 Māori in Aotearoa New Zealand with venous leg ulcers. Data analysis was informed by a reflexive thematic approach and four themes were identified: Ko waewae ahau (I wear the leg); Ngā mea hōhā (annoying things); Ka tangi te ngākau (heartfelt grief); and Mamae (pain, sore, hurt).

Purpose: In order to achieve mutations with enhanced economic, productive, and nutritional characteristics in the two Egyptian cowpea varieties, Dokki 331 and Kaha 1, the application of gamma irradiation at different doses is employed. Additionally, this method aids in distinguishing between these mutations using simple sequence repeat (SSR) analysis.
Materials And Methods: Two different cowpea cultivars were subjected to varying doses of gamma radiation ranging from 50 to 300 Gy.

The introduction of glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1)-based therapies has greatly improved the management of type 2 diabetes (T2D), as they ensure good blood glucose control and promote weight loss. Ingestion of standardized herbal remedies that promote the same endogenous metabolic processes affected by the GLP-1-based treatments could provide cheaper alternatives in low- and middle-income countries, where there is currently an increase in the incidence of T2D. The focus in this study was to determine quality control parameters and the prime factors for the Rauvolfia-Citrus tea (RC-tea), as used in Nigerian traditional medicine to treat T2D.

Secretoglobin (SCGB) 3A2 belongs to an intriguing family of small, secreted proteins present only in mammals. Although members of the SCGB protein family have distinct amino acid sequences, they share structural similarities. Of particularly interest is the not yet fully understood self-assembly ability of SCGBs, which arise from covalent disulfide dimerization and non-covalent oligomerization.
