Fixed-loop and adjustable-loop cortical suspensory fixation devices are both available as graft fixation options for surgeons. Fixed devices require facilities to manage various available sizes in the inventory, whereas adjustable devices are a true one-size-fits-all device requiring one inventory item for all cases. Adjustable-loop devices are also the only device that allows for postfixation tightening that may be advantageous for the surgeon who desires to tighten and retighten the graft construct once again before the case is completed.

Introduction: This study aims to evaluate the effects of adjustable- and fixed-loop femoral endobuttons on intraoperative surgeon satisfaction and postoperative patient functional outcomes in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. The use of cortical suspensory devices, either fixed-loop or adjustable-loop, is common in ACL reconstruction surgeries for femoral tunnel fixation. Fixed-loop devices, although effective, often require additional tunnel drilling, potentially leading to tunnel widening.

Purpose: Distal biceps tendon (DBT) injuries are relatively uncommon. Controversies exist regarding the best approach, leading to variations in treatment. This study aims to understand the preferences and practices of orthopedic surgeons regarding management of DBT injuries, as well as assess the feasibility of a future pilot randomized controlled trial (RCT) to evaluate the impact of various surgical factors on patient outcomes.

Objective: Chimpanzees are altricial in terms of their locomotor development and transition from being carried to engaging in suspensory and arboreal locomotor behaviors to eventually relying on terrestrial quadrupedalism as their main form of locomotion. Here, we consider the mechanical implications of femoral cortical bone restructuring during growth and locomotor development in wild chimpanzees.

Materials And Methods: Cortical bone structure was examined in an ontogenetic sample of wild chimpanzees from a single subspecies (P.

Article Synopsis
  • Displaced avulsion fractures of the calcaneal tuberosity often result from osteoporosis or severe injuries, posing risks like wound breakdown and hardware failure, especially in older patients with health issues.
  • The authors introduce a new technique using the TightRope Attachable Button System (ABS) for treating complex Beavis type II 'beak' calcaneal fractures, adapting methods from ACL surgeries.
  • A successful case is presented involving a 67-year-old woman with multiple health conditions who underwent this innovative procedure, demonstrating no complications after four years.

Presented here is a modified technique for bridge-enhanced anterior cruciate ligament repair using adjustable-loop cortical suspensory femoral fixation. Advantages include the elimination of the need for a larger femoral-side incision and elimination of the risk of knot slippage while securing fixation of the anterior cruciate ligament repair suture.
