An evaluation of mepolizumab as an add-on maintenance treatment for severe eosinophilic asthma.

Expert Opin Biol Ther

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Respiratory Disease, Joint International Research Laboratory of Respiratory Health, National Clinical Research Center for Respiratory Disease, National Center for Respiratory Medicine, Department of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Health, the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou, Guangdong, P.R. China.

Introduction: Clinical experience with anti-interleukin (IL)-5 biologic therapies for severe asthma has been increasing, alongside deeper and broader research focusing on the role of IL-5 and the IL-5 targeted mepolizumab. This review aims to provide an update of the evidence on the role of IL-5 and mepolizumab, with discussions of the benefits of mepolizumab and its future potential, to promote the comprehension of the pathophysiology and therapeutic approaches to asthma.

Areas Covered: For this narrative review, we conducted a database search in PubMed and Embase using the keywords 'IL-5' and 'mepolizumab,' focusing on randomized controlled trials and real-world studies up to September 2024.

Biodegradable Stents in the Treatment of Arterial Stenosis.

J Clin Med

January 2025

Department of Accident and Emergency, Etlik City Hospital, Ankara 06170, Turkey.

Arterial diseases (ADs) are a significant health problem, with high mortality and morbidity rates. Endovascular interventions, such as balloon angioplasty (BA), bare-metal stents (BMSs), drug-eluting stents (DESs) and drug-coated balloons (DCBs), have made significant progress in their treatments. However, the issue has not been fully resolved, with restenosis remaining a major concern.

Determination of the Entire Existence Composition Range of CrMnFeCoNi High-Entropy Alloys Using Sintered Diffusion Multiple Method.

Materials (Basel)

January 2025

Graduate School of Science and Engineering, Ibaraki University, 4-12-1 Nakanarusawa, Hitachi 316-8511, Ibaraki, Japan.

The sintered diffusion multiple (SDM) method, which has been developed in our research group, has been applied to determine the entire composition range of the CrMnFeCoNi high-entropy alloy stereoscopically and continuously over nearly the entire range. The samples were prepared by sintering mixed elemental powders and were annealed at 970 °C or 800 °C. Several hundreds of thousands of points were analyzed at random within the samples for chemical compositions using electron probe microanalysis.

Cardiogenic shock remains a significant cause of mortality in patients with acute coronary syndrome, despite early interventions, such as coronary revascularization. Mechanical circulatory support devices, particularly venoarterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO), are increasingly being utilized to address this issue. Limited randomized controlled trials (RCTs) exist to evaluate the efficacy of VA-ECMO in cardiogenic shock related to acute coronary syndrome.

Introduction: Intestinal constipation is a substantive global health concern, significantly impairing patient quality of life. An emerging view is that the gut microbiota plays a critical role in intestinal function, and probiotics could offer therapeutic benefits. This study aims to consolidate evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) that assess the effectiveness of probiotics in modulating microbiota and ameliorating symptoms of constipation.
