Background: Alzheimer's Disease (AD) incidence is almost double in female than male, suggesting sex-specific AD risk genes remain unknown.
Method: We designed a statistical physics approach that exploits freely available but massive evolutionary and phylogenetic coupling data on sequence variation and speciation. These couplings lead to quantifiable values for the selection pressure exerted on the genes within a population.

Rice leaves can assimilate atmospheric mercury (Hg), which is accumulated by grains and causes health risks to rice consumers. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying Hg assimilation in rice leaves remain poorly understood. Here, we investigated catalase's (CAT) function in Hg oxidation within rice leaves, as well as the Hg speciation and transcriptomic profiles of rice leaves exposed to Hg.

Whether large-scale variation in lineage diversification rates can be predicted by species properties at the population level is a key unresolved question at the interface between micro- and macroevolution. All else being equal, species with biological attributes that confer metapopulation stability should persist more often at timescales relevant to speciation and so give rise to new (incipient) forms that share these biological traits. Here, we develop a framework for testing the relationship between metapopulation properties related to persistence and phylogenetic speciation rates.
