We describe herein a manganese(IV) oxide-mediated oxidation of N-p-methoxyphenyl (PMP)-protected glycine derivatives for the synthesis of α-imino carboxylic acid derivatives. Using this methodology, utilization of unstable glyoxic acid derivatives was avoided. Furthermore, using this methodology we synthesized novel α-imino carboxylic acid derivatives such as α-imino phenyl ester, perfluoroalkyl etsers, imides, and thioester. The asymmetric Mannich reaction of those novel imine derivatives with 1,3-dicarbonyl compound is also described, and the novel α-imino imide gave improved chemical yield and stereoselectivity compared with those obtained by the use of the conventional α-imino ester-type substrate.

The chemical investigation of the fruits of Garcinia schomburgkiana growing in Vietnam led to the isolation of a new anofinic acid derivative, 5-hydroxy-8-methoxyanofinic acid (1), a new xanthone, xanthoschome C (2), and a known synthetic phenolic analogue, 4-(2-hydroxybenzyl)-2-(4-hydroxybenzyl) phenol (3), along with seven known xanthones (4-10). The structures of all isolated compounds were determined using spectroscopic techniques (NMR and MS), in conjunction with comparison to existing literature data. All isolated compounds were assessed for their α-glucosidase inhibitory activity and showed significant inhibition, with IC50 values ranging from 12.

In response, some specialized herbivores evolved resistance and even the capacity to sequester toxins, affecting interactions at higher trophic levels. Lignin, the most abundant renewable source of aromatic compounds on earth, remains underexploited in traditional biorefining. Fraxetin, a naturally occurring flavonoid, has garnered considerable attention in the scientific community due to its diverse and potent biological activities such as antimicrobial, anticancer, antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neurological protective actions. To enhance the green and value-added utilization of lignin, Saccharomyces cerevisiae was engineered as a cell factory to transform lignin derivatives to produce fraxetin.

The present study focuses on designing mutant peptides derived from the lanthanide binding tag (LBT) to enhance selectivity for trivalent actinide (An) ions over lanthanide (Ln) metal ions (M). The LBT is a short peptide consisting of only 17 amino acids, and is known for its high affinity towards Ln. LBT was modified by substituting hard-donor ligands like asparagine (ASN or N) and aspartic acid (ASP or D) with softer ligand cysteine (CYS or C) to create four mutant peptides: M-LBT (wild-type), M-N103C, M-D105C, and M-N103C-D105C.
