Contrast agents for multimodal imaging are in high demand for cancer diagnosis. To date, integration of T/T-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and X-ray computed tomography (CT) imaging capabilities in one system to obtain an accurate diagnosis still remains challenging. In this work, biocompatible PEGylated GdF:Fe nanoparticles (PEG-GdF:Fe NPs) were reasonable designed and synthesized as multifunctional contrast agents for efficient T/T-weighted MRI and X-ray CT multimodal imaging. Owing to the enhanced permeability and retention effect in vivo, strong T contrast, evident T contrast, and X-ray CT signals in a tumor lesion can be observed after intravenous injection of PEG-GdF:Fe NPs. Therefore, PEG-GdF:Fe NPs could be used as potential multimodal contrast agents for cancer diagnosis.

The brain is composed of a dense and ramified vascular network of arteries, veins and capillaries of various sizes. One way to assess the risk of cerebrovascular pathologies is to use computational models to predict the physiological effects of reduced blood supply and correlate these responses with observations of brain damage. Therefore, it is crucial to establish a detailed 3D organization of the brain vasculature, which could be used to develop more accurate in silico models.

Vesicles play critical roles in cellular materials storage and signal transportation, even in the formation of organelles and cells. Natural vesicles are composed of a lipid layer that forms a membrane for the enclosure of substances inside. Here we report a coacervate vesicle formed by the liquid-liquid phase separation of cholesterol-modified DNA and histones.

In this work, microalgae-based zinc oxide nanoparticles loaded with electrospun polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/sodium alginate (SA) nanofibers were fabricated by electro-spinner. PVA/SA fibrous mats were crosslinked by citric acid, which enhanced their thermal stability and swelling behavior. Green-synthesized ZnO NPs were laboratory synthesized and characterized by FTIR, XRD, EDX, SEM, TEM and TGA analyses.

Best current practice in the analysis of dynamic contrast enhanced (DCE)-MRI is to employ a voxel-by-voxel model selection from a hierarchy of nested models. This nested model selection (NMS) assumes that the observed time-trace of contrast-agent (CA) concentration within a voxel, corresponds to a singular physiologically nested model. However, admixtures of different models may exist within a voxel's CA time-trace.

Background: Recent media attention has been given to an apparent shift away from hormonal methods of contraception. While an increase in fertility awareness-based or 'natural' family planning methods is reported in the grey literature, there are no robust data to determine any such trend in the UK.
Methods: We compared self-reported contraceptive use at conception among patients presenting for abortion at British Pregnancy Advisory Service from January to June 2018 (N=33 495) and January to June 2023 (N=55 055) using chi-square (χ) tests of association.
