A multi-arm W-band (94 GHz) electron paramagnetic resonance spectrometer that incorporates a loop-gap resonator with high bandwidth is described. A goal of the instrumental development is detection of free induction decay following rapid sweep of the microwave frequency across the spectrum of a nitroxide radical at physiological temperature, which is expected to lead to a capability for Fourier transform electron paramagnetic resonance. Progress toward this goal is a theme of the paper. Because of the low Q-value of the loop-gap resonator, it was found necessary to develop a new type of automatic frequency control, which is described in an appendix. Path-length equalization, which is accomplished at the intermediate frequency of 59 GHz, is analyzed. A directional coupler is favored for separation of incident and reflected power between the bridge and the loop-gap resonator. Microwave leakage of this coupler is analyzed. An oversize waveguide with hyperbolic-cosine tapers couples the bridge to the loop-gap resonator, which results in reduced microwave power and signal loss. Benchmark sensitivity data are provided. The most extensive application of the instrument to date has been the measurement of T values using pulse saturation recovery. An overview of that work is provided.

DNP-NMR and EPR experiments that operate at or greater than L-band (i.e., ν(e) = 1-2 GHz) are typically limited to maximum sample volumes of several hundred µL.

We present a comprehensive exploration of loop-gap resonators for electron spin resonance (ESR) studies, enabling investigations into the hybridization of solid-state magnetic materials with microwave polariton modes. The experimental setup, implemented in aby Quantum Design, allows for measurements of ESR spectra at temperatures as low as 2 Kelvin. The versatility of continuous wave ESR spectroscopy is demonstrated through experiments on CuSO4⋅5HO and MgCrO, showcasing the g-tensor and magnetic susceptibilities of these materials.

This research report describes a novel surface dielectric resonator (SDR) with a flexible connector for in vivo electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectroscopy. Contrary to the conventional cavity or surface loop-gap resonators, the newly developed SDR is constructed from a ceramic dielectric material, and it is tuned to operate at the L-band frequency band (1.15 GHz) in continuous-wave mode.

We demonstrate a Ramsey-type microwave clock interrogating the 6.835 GHz ground-state transition in cold [Formula: see text]Rb atoms loaded from a grating magneto-optical trap (GMOT) enclosed in an additively manufactured loop-gap resonator microwave cavity. A short-term stability of [Formula: see text] is demonstrated, in reasonable agreement with predictions from the signal-to-noise ratio of the measured Ramsey fringes.

This paper presents a printed magnetic probe that can switch from broadband to tunable narrowband for near-field measurement. In the early design stage, we created a printed loop gap resonator as a magnetic reference sensor for the pre-compliance test in a band up to 6 GHz. Consequently, the results showed a good response in terms of the S11 and S21 parameters of the proposed probe compared with the commercial magnetic sensor XF-R 3-1.
