Fluorescent probes that are able to directly measure viscosity are attractive candidates for the study of intracellular environments. We report a new class of luminescent rotors, based on the sensitized emission of a terbium(III) complex. A 4-fold increase in both quantum yield and luminescence lifetime was observed in viscous media for the studied complexes, with a lifetime ranging from 0.23 to 0.89 ms over a broad range of viscosities (0.6-1200 cP). The presented approach, relying on the millisecond-scale luminescence lifetime of the lanthanide ions, was applied to fixed T24 cancer cells using temporal sampling lifetime imaging microscopy.

This updated Heart Valve Collaboratory framework addresses the growing concern for transcatheter valve failure (TVF) following transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR). With the increasing volume of redo-TAV and surgical TAV explantation, there is a critical need for standardized pathways and protocols for evaluating TVF using echocardiography and cardiac computed tomography (CT) angiography. This document clarifies prior definitions of bioprosthetic valve deterioration and bioprosthetic valve failure in a practical, imaging directed context for TAVR.

Background: Prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) is currently under evaluation for detecting clinically significant prostate cancer. The PSMA-PET/CT may complement the current standard diagnostic pathway for prostate cancer, which includes prostate-specific antigen (PSA) testing and multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI). This study evaluated the cost-effectiveness and quality of life impact of incorporating PSMA-PET/CT into this diagnostic algorithm.

Combining spectroscopic techniques with spatially-resolved microscopy capabilities creates an avenue for in-depth investigations into understanding the impact of specific regions and features across surfaces and their relevance for resulting device performance. For device optimization and development, these techniques can be utilized as a means to identify the impacts and roles of the underlying defects and charge extraction across interfaces. Here, we highlight the ways that (correlated) spectro-microscopy methods have been utilized within the field of materials science to understand materials properties and the underlying optoelectronic processes dictating device functionality.

A study of non-photochemical laser-induced nucleation (NPLIN) of cesium chloride in aqueous supersaturated solutions is presented. Single, unfocused laser pulses (duration 5 ns, peak power density 180 MW cm) of 532 nm laser light were used to induce crystal nucleation, and the resulting dynamics were studied using imaging at frame rates up to 250 000 frames per second (4 μs per frame). Thermocavitation events were observed in a surrounding index-matching fluid, both in the bulk and at the exterior walls of vials.

In response to an ageing global population, the primary hip and knee arthroplasty rate continues to increase. Although an effective treatment, up to 25% patients may require revision arthroplasty during their lifetime, commonly due to periprosthetic loosening. Revision procedures are associated with significantly increased healthcare costs; therefore, timely and accurate diagnostics are critical for clinicians and patients.
