Carbon dots (CDs) are promising candidates as oxygen photosensitizers, in cancer therapeutic applications due to their high quantum yield, superior chemical and photostability, low cytotoxicity and ease of chemical functionalization/tuning. Nitrogen doping can further improve oxygen photosensitization performance. Besides photodynamic therapy, however, the possibility to finely and remotely regulate the intracellular redox balance by using physical stimuli has been attracting more and more interest not only for nanotheranostic application, but also as a novel, fully biocompatible therapeutic tool.

The initiation of embryogenesis in the kelp Saccharina latissima is accompanied by significant anisotropy in cell shape. Using monoclonal antibodies, we show that this anisotropy coincides with a spatio-temporal pattern of accumulation of alginates in the cell wall of the zygote and embryo. Alginates rich in guluronates as well as sulphated fucans show a homogeneous distribution in the embryo throughout Phase I of embryogenesis, but mannuronate alginates accumulate mainly on the sides of the zygote and embryo, disappearing as the embryo enlarges at the start of Phase II.

New derivatives of the -decaborate anion [BH-O(CH)O(CH)C(O)-L-OCH] (An) (: L = Trp; : L = His; : L = Met; : L = Ala(2-oxopyrrolidin-3-yl) (Pld) were synthesized and isolated as tetraphenylphosphonium salts (PhP)An. Anions ; ; , and contain a pendant functional group from the L-tryptophan methyl ester, L-histidine methyl ester, L-methionine methyl ester, or methyl 2-amino-3-(2-oxopyrrolidin-3-yl)propanoate (-Trp-OCH, -His-OCH, -Met-OCH, or -Pld-OCH) residue, respectively, bonded with the boron cluster anion through the oxybis[(ethane-2,1-diyl)oxy] spacer. This pacer is formed as a result of the nucleophilic opening of the attached dioxane molecule in the [BHO(CH)O] starting derivative.

Background: Histone deacetylase 4 () is a member of the class II histone deacetylase family, whose members play a crucial role in various biological processes. An in-depth investigation of the transcriptional characteristics of chicken can provide fundamental insights into its function.
Methods: We examined expression in chicken embryonic stem cells (ESC) and spermatogonial stem cells (SSC) and cloned a 444 bp fragment from upstream of the chicken transcription start site.
