During the most active period of star formation in galaxies, which occurs in the redshift range 1 3, strong bursts of star formation result in significant quantities of dust, which obscures new stars being formed as their UV/optical light is absorbed and then re-emitted in the infrared, which redshifts into the mm/sub-mm bands for these early times. To get a complete picture of the high- galaxy population, we need to survey a large patch of the sky in the sub-mm with sufficient angular resolution to resolve all galaxies, but we also need the depth to fully sample their cosmic evolution, and therefore obtain their redshifts using direct mm spectroscopy with a very wide frequency coverage. This requires a large single-dish sub-mm telescope with fast mapping speeds at high sensitivity and angular resolution, a large bandwidth with good spectral resolution and multiplex spectroscopic capabilities.

Unlabelled: The osteon is the primary structural component of bone, contributing significantly to its unique toughness and strength. Despite extensive research on osteonal structure, the properties of osteons have not been fully investigated, particularly within the context of bone fragility diseases like type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This study aims to isolate osteons from bovine bone, simulate the effects of increased advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) in T2DM through ribosylation, and evaluate the mechanical properties of isolated osteons.

The ClSS radical is one of the members of the XSS, XSO and XOO (X = H, F, Cl) radicals. It was studied by Fujitake using millimeter- and sub-millimeter wave spectroscopy, where no hyperfine structure was resolved. As the last piece of this series of radicals, it is important to determine the fine and hyperfine constants of the ClSS radical precisely using FTMW spectroscopy.

Translating sensory inputs to perceptual decisions relies on building internal representations of features critical for solving complex tasks. Yet, we still lack a mechanistic account of how the brain forms these mental templates of task-relevant features to optimize decision-making. Here, we provide evidence for recurrent inhibition: an experience-dependent plasticity mechanism that refines mental templates by enhancing γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-mediated (GABAergic) inhibition and recurrent processing in superficial visual cortex layers.

Droplet Interface Bilayers (DIBs) constitute a commonly used model of artificial membranes for synthetic biology research applications. However, their practical use is often limited by their requirement to be surrounded by oil. Here we demonstrate in-situ bilayer manipulation of submillimeter, hydrogel-encapsulated droplet interface bilayers (eDIBs).
