The relation between early mother-infant skin-to-skin contact (SSC) and mothers' subsequent sensitivity to their low birth weight infants was investigated in a study of 12 mother-infant dyads who participated in a South African randomized control study of early SSC. The dyads were visited in the home when infants were under 1 year. Amounts of SSC were taken from hospital records and home interviews. Videotapes of mother-infant interactions in the home were scored for maternal sensitivity on the Maternal Behavior Q-Sort (D.R. Pederson, G. Moran, & S. Bento, 1999) and the Maternal Behavior subscale of the Nursing Child Assessment Teaching Scale (G. Sumner & A. Spietz, 1994). Amount of SSC in infants' first 24 hr correlated with amount of SSC through the first month. Amount of SSC in infants' first 24 hr independently accounted for maternal sensitivity on both measures, indicating that early mother-infant SSC predicted subsequent maternal sensitivity.

This study investigated the use of group body mapping as a methodological tool to explore experiences of obstetric violence among migrant women from Senegal, Morocco, and Pakistan in Catalonia. The research aimed to assess the effectiveness of group body mapping in identifying the barriers these women faced during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, while also highlighting the intersectional dimensions of obstetric violence. The study identified seven key codes-Issues/Barriers, Trust, Gender, Body/Embodiment, Significant Relationships, Employment, and Gender-Based Violence-which were analyzed from an intersectional perspective.

Background: Seasonality of human growth evinces the association between environmental variation, including the physical and the social-economic-political environment, and biological changes. Objective: To externally validate a prediction model for the risk of a cesarean section after induction of labor (IOL) using a web-based cesarean risk calculator in a tertiary perinatal center and to compare the performance of three calculators in predicting the cesarean risk after IOL based on their sensitivity and specificity.
Methods: This was a prospective observational study of 577 women over a period of 1 year at a tertiary perinatal center in India. Women with singleton-term pregnancies with intact membranes that underwent induction were included.
Introduction: Maternal Group B (GBS) rectovaginal colonization is an important risk factor for invasive disease in neonates, yet availability of culture-based methods for detection is limited in low-resource settings. We evaluated the diagnostic performance of the HiberGene (HG) GBS loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) assay for the rapid detection of GBS in rectal/vaginal swabs collected from women in Uganda. This work forms a part of the PROGRESS GBS study.
