Purpose: The aims of this study were to review our cases of missed Monteggia fracture treated by open reduction of the radial head with or without ulnar osteotomy and to investigate the indications for open reduction alone in surgical treatment of missed Monteggia fracture.
Materials And Methods: We retrospectively reviewed 22 patients who presented with missed Monteggia fracture. The patients' mean age at the time of surgery was 7.6 years. The mean interval from injury to surgery was 16.1 months. The surgical procedure consisted of open reduction of the radiocapitellar joint followed by ulnar osteotomy without reconstruction of the annular ligament. The mean period of follow-up was 3.8 years. Radiographic assessment was performed for the maximum ulnar bow (MUB) and the location of the MUB. Clinical results were evaluated with the Mayo Elbow Performance Index and Kim's scores.
Results: Five patients underwent open reduction alone, and 17 patients underwent open reduction and ulnar osteotomy. When the MUB was less than 4 mm and the location of the MUB was in the distal 40% of the ulna, we could achieve reduction of the radial head without ulnar osteotomy. The radial head was maintained in a completely reduced position in 21 patients and was dislocated in one patient at final follow-up.
Conclusion: Open reduction alone can be an attractive surgical option in select patients with missed Monteggia fracture with minimal bowing of the distal ulna. However, ulnar osteotomy should be considered in patients with a definite ulnar deformity.

Background: Stigma toward transgender children and adolescents negatively impacts their health and educational outcomes. Contact with members of stigmatized groups can dismantle stereotypes and reduce stigma by facilitating exposure to the unique cognitive and emotional perspectives of individuals within the group. Recent evidence suggests that video-based contact interventions can be as effective as face-to-face encounters, but challenges lie in protecting the identities of transgender youth, since many of them live in stealth.

Background: Surgical stabilization of rib fractures (SSRF) is a standard treatment for multiple rib fractures and flail chest. The aim of this study is to evaluate the outcomes of internal rib fixation through complete video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) for multiple rib fractures and flail chest in patients with severe chest trauma.
Methods: Thirty-nine patients with multiple rib fractures caused by severe chest trauma were divided into two groups according to the surgical approach used.
Background: The amplitude of resting-state electroencephalographic (rsEEG) rhythms is a promising neurophysiological biomarker to investigate the abnormalities of oscillatory neurophysiological thalamocortical mechanisms related to the general cortical arousal and vigilance in wakefulness in patients with dementia due to neurodegenerative diseases as Alzheimer's disease (ADD), Parkinson's disease (PDD) and Lewy Body disease (DLB). Here, we tested the hypothesis that the reactivity of posterior rsEEG alpha (about 8-12 Hz) rhythms during the transition from eyes-closed to -open condition may be lower in PDD patients than in DLB patients.
Methods: A Eurasian database provided clinical-demographic-rsEEG datasets in 35 ADD patients, 65 PDD patients, 30 DLB patients, and 25 matched cognitively unimpaired (Healthy) persons.

Background: People living in diverse rural areas have shown higher rates of Alzheimer's disease and related dementias (ADRD) compared with their urban counterparts. Further, individuals in rural areas have higher rates of modifiable risk factors for ADRD, such as physical inactivity and alcohol misuse, that account for up to 40% of dementia cases. This study aimed to investigate the efficacy of a novel public health initiative to reduce dementia incidence in both urban and rural settings in Australia's island state: Tasmania.

We report the final primary and secondary outcomes of the Dominantly Inherited Alzheimer Network Trials Unit (DIAN-TU) trial to evaluate amyloid-plaque removal in delaying disease progression, including symptom onset, in symptomatic and asymptomatic dominantly inherited Alzheimer's disease (DIAD) individuals treated for up to a decade.
Method: This double-blind, phase 2/3 trial (2012-2019), followed by open-label extension (OLE), investigated varying gantenerumab doses up to 1500 mg subcutaneous q2 weeks [NCT01760005].
