Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the impact of continuous lateral rotational therapy (CLRT) on respiratory complications and mortality in patients suffering from trauma.
Methods: The literature databases PubMed®/Medline® and the Cochrane Library® were systematically searched for prospective controlled trials comparing continuous lateral rotational therapy to conventional manual positioning in trauma patients.
Results: A total of 8 publications (n= 422 patients) with comparable age and injury severity were included in the meta-analysis. A significant reduction in the incidence of nosocomial pneumonia (OR: 0.33, [95%CI: 0.17, 0.65], p=0.001) was observed in patients treated prophylactically with continuous lateral rotational therapy. When used with therapeutic intention, CLRT had no impact on the incidence of pneumonia. There were no significant differences in mortality, duration of mechanical ventilation, or ICU length of stay.
Conclusions: Analogous to studies evaluating CLRT in medical or mixed patient collectives, CLRT reduced the rates of nosocomial pneumonia in trauma patients. This, however, had no impact on overall mortality. The level of evidence of the studies included was limited by several factors. An adequately powered, well-designed multi-centre randomised controlled trial is required, to validly assess the utility of CLRT for the prevention and treatment of pulmonary complications in patients suffering from trauma.
Level Of Evidence: Systematic review and meta-analysis, level III.

The incidence of cervical cancer continues to rise in underdeveloped regions due to low human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination rates and inadequate screening systems. To achieve convenient, rapid, and accurate detection of HPV, we developed a three-wire lateral flow strip assay system based on dual-OR logic gates for rapid and simultaneous detection of HPV subtypes 16 and 18 in a single test. The system combines three-branch-catalytic hairpin assembly (TCHA)-mediated signal amplification with simple OR logic gate-based signal output to improve detection rates while enabling HPV 16/18 subtype identification.

Polymer blending is an interesting strategy to broaden the combination of properties available for a variety of applications. To understand the behaviour of the new materials obtained as well as the influence of the fabrication parameters used, methods to analyse the distribution of polymers in the blend with resolution below the micrometer are required. In this work, we demonstrate the capability of focused ion beam (FIB) tomography to provide 3D information of the polymer distribution in objects obtained by blending acrylonitrile-styrene-acrylate (ASA) with polycarbonate (PC) (50 wt%), fabricated by Fused Filament Fabrication (FFF) and by Injection Moulding (IM).

Background: Minimum joint space width (mJSW) is an important continuous quantitative metric of osteoarthritis progression in the knee. The purpose of this study was to develop an automated measurement algorithm for mJSW in the medial and lateral compartments of the knee that can flexibly handle native knees as well as knees after arthroplasty.
Methods: We developed an end-to-end algorithm consisting of a deep learning segmentation model plus a computer vision algorithm to measure mJSW in the medial and lateral compartments of the knee.

Objectives: Ultrasound is a promising low-risk imaging modality that can provide objective airway measurements that may circumvent limitations of drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE). This study was devised to identify ultrasound-derived anatomical measurements that could accurately predict collapse pattern and location based on the VOTE criteria (VOTE: Velum, Oropharynx, Tongue, and Epiglottis).
Methods: Ultrasonography was performed on 20 adult patients of various airway subsites while awake and sedated with concurrent endoscopy performed during drug-induced sleep.
