An analysis of 100 biopsy-proven lung cancers found by chance chest films and treated by resection have been collected over a 20 year period. Data relating to sex of patients, smoking habits, age groups, lung and lobar sites, cell type, treatment and survival are stated and discussed in relation to the findings of a known planned study for detecting early stage lung cancer by chest films. It is concluded that, if a person at lung cancer risk is genuinely interested in having regular checks to catch early, operable disease, then his chances are best with six-monthly chest films.

Chitin properties are known to vary depending on animal taxa, organismal source, and specific skeletal segments; However, the influence of these source-dependent variations on the physicochemical characteristics of chitin nanocrystals, particularly their Bouligand architecture, remains largely unexplored. Herein, chitin nanocrystals were isolated from seven different skeletal segments of C. aurata and characterized.

Postmastectomy radiotherapy causes capsular contracture due to fibroproliferation of the capsular tissue around the implant. In fibrosis, unlike normal wound healing, structural and functional disorders are observed in the tissues caused by excessive/irregular accumulation of extracellular matrix proteins. It has been reported that transforming growth factor-β3 (TGF-β3) prevents and reverses fibrosis in various tissues or provides scarless healing with its antifibrotic effect.

Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) has been proven useful for the assessment of tubes and lines on chest radiographs of general patients. However, validation on intensive care unit (ICU) patients remains imperative.
Methods: This retrospective case-control study evaluated the performance of deep learning (DL) models for tubes and lines classification on both an external public dataset and a local dataset comprising 303 films randomly sampled from the ICU database.

Objective: To explore effectiveness of minimally invasive internal fixation with locking plates for mid-shaft clavicle fractures.
Methods: Between October 2022 and August 2023, 28 patients with mid-shaft clavicle fractures were treated by minimally invasive internal fixation with locking plates. There were 10 males and 18 females with a mean age of 46.
Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) based computer-aided detection devices are recommended for screening and triaging of pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) using digital chest x-ray (CXR) images (soft copies). Most AI algorithms are trained using input data from digital CXR Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine (DICOM) files. There can be scenarios when only digital CXR films (hard copies) are available for interpretation.
