The opportunistic human pathogen initiates invasive growth through a programmed germination process that progresses from dormant spore to swollen spore (SS) to germling (GL) and ultimately invasive hyphal growth. We find a lipoxygenase with considerable homology to human Alox5 and Alox15, LoxB, that impacts the transitions of programmed spore germination. Overexpression of () increases germination with rapid advance to the GL stage. However, deletion of () or its signal peptide only delays progression to the SS stage in the presence of arachidonic acid (AA); no delay is observed in minimal media. This delay is remediated by the addition of the oxygenated AA oxylipin 5-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (5-HETE) that is a product of human Alox5. We propose that acquisition of LoxB (found in few fungi) enhances germination rates in polyunsaturated fatty acid-rich environments.

To determine the compatibility of two new biocontrol fungi with common chemical pesticides, this study examined the effects of three insecticides, namely, avermectin, imidacloprid, and acetamiprid, and three fungicides, namely, chlorogenonil, boscalid, and kasugamycin, on the mycelial growth and spore germination of strains IF-1106 and IJ-tg19. The insecticidal effects of mixed insecticides or fungicides with good compatibility with IJ-tg19 against were tested. The results showed that the six chemical pesticides exerted different degrees of inhibition on the mycelial growth of both strains, with an obvious dose-dependent effect.

Translational Medicine, Oncology R&D, AstraZeneca, Cambridge Biomedical Campus, 1 Francis Crick Avenue, Cambridge, CB2 0AA, UK.

Background: The introduction of poly(ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors represented a paradigm shift in the treatment of ovarian cancer. Genomic data from patients with high-grade ovarian cancer in six phase II/III trials involving the PARP inhibitor olaparib were analyzed to better understand patterns and potential causes of genomic instability.

Patients And Methods: Homologous recombination deficiency (HRD) was assessed in 2147 tumor samples from SOLO1, PAOLA-1, Study 19, SOLO2, OPINION, and LIGHT using next-generation sequencing technology.

Ecytonucleospora hepatopenaei (EHP), a microsporidian parasite first named and characterized from the Penaeus monodon (black or giant tiger shrimp), causes growth retardation and poses a significant threat to shrimp farming. We observed shrimp farms associated with disease conditions during our fish disease surveillance and health management program in West Bengal, India. Shrimp exhibited growth retardation and increased size variability, particularly in advanced stages, exhibiting soft shells, lethargy, reduced feeding and empty midguts.

The Lanzhou lily bulbs are often vulnerable to postharvest infections by pathogenic fungi, leading to lily bulb rot. This study investigated the ability of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) produced by Stenotrophomonas geniculata J-0 to control the highly pathogenic fungus Fusarium oxysporum BH-7 in postharvest Lanzhou lily bulbs. VOCs of S.
