Bone tuberculosis may mimic malignant tumor. We here report the case of a 4-year old child with bone tuberculosis mimicking femoral osteosarcoma. The diagnosis was rectified thanks to anatomo-pathologic examination. This case study underlines the importance of knowing the clinical and radiological aspects of bone tuberculosis which can mimic malignant tumor. In order to avoid any delay in diagnosis, surgeons, pediatricians and radiologists should know that tuberculosis can mimic many pathologies, both clinically and radiologically.

We report the case of a 66-year-old female patient with a treatment refractory disorder of wound healing of the knee, who had already been treated several times surgically and with antibiotics for several months. The examination revealed a skin defect with a fistula in the region of the knee joint. The X‑ray imaging showed an extensive bony defect of unclear etiology.

Case: A 47-year-old man presented with neck pain, restricted neck movements, along with involvement of facial and hypoglossal nerve. On the basis of clinico-radiological correlation, the patient was diagnosed with craniovertebral junction tuberculosis and was started on antitubercular therapy (ATT). Failing the conservative trial, the patient was operated and occipitocervical fusion was done with bone grafting.

It is established that BCG vaccination results in the development of both a specific immune response to mycobacterial infections and a nonspecific (heterologous) immune response, designated as trained immunity (TRIM), to other pathogens. We hypothesized that local BCG immunization may induce an early immune response in bone marrow and spleen innate immunity cells. The early transcriptomic response of various populations of innate immune cells, including monocytes, neutrophils, and natural killer (NK) cells, to BCG vaccination was examined.

Unlabelled: Crosstalk between autophagy, host cell death, and inflammatory host responses to bacterial pathogens enables effective innate immune responses that limit bacterial growth while minimizing coincidental host damage. ( ) thwarts innate immune defense mechanisms in alveolar macrophages (AMs) during the initial stages of infection and in recruited bone marrow-derived cells during later stages of infection. However, how protective inflammatory responses are achieved during infection and the variation of the response in different macrophage subtypes remain obscure.

Background: Disseminated nocardiosis is a rare and potentially fatal disease, with a higher incidence in immunocompromised patients, such as those living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or hematological malignancies, including lymphoma. Information on Nocardia spp. infection in Venezuela is limited.
