The present study reports a novel, facile, biosynthesis route for the synthesis of carbon nanodots (CDs) with an approximate quantum yield of 38.5%, using Musk melon extract as a naturally derived-precursor material. The synthesis of CDs was established by using ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectroscopy, Dynamic light scattering, photoluminescence spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The as-prepared CDs possess an eminent fluorescence under UV-light ( = 365 nm). The size range of CDs was found to be in the range of 5-10 nm. The authors further explored the use of such biosynthesised CDs as a photocatalyst material for removal of industrial dye. Degradation of methylene blue dye was performed in a photocatalytic reactor and monitored using UV-vis spectroscopy. The CDs show excellent dye degradation capability of 37.08% in 60 min and reaction rate of 0.0032 min. This study shows that synthesised CDs are highly stable in nature, and possess potential application in wastewater treatment.

Stabilizing the Fe Species of Nickel-Iron Double Hydroxide via Chelating Asymmetric Aldehyde-Containing THB Ligand for Long-Lasting Water Oxidation.

Adv Mater

December 2024

State Key Lab of High Performance Ceramics and Superfine Microstructure, Shanghai Institute of Ceramics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai, 200050, P. R. China.

Nickel-iron layered double hydroxides (NiFe LDHs) are considered as promising substitutes for precious metals in oxygen evolution reaction (OER). However, most of the reported NiFe LDHs suffer from poor long-term stability because of the Fe loss during OER resulting in severe inactivation. Herein, a dynamically stable chelating interface through in situ transformation of asymmetric aldehyde-ligand (THB, 1,3,5-Tris(3'-hydroxy-4'-formylphenyl)-benzene) modified NiFe LDHs to anchor Fe and significantly enhance the OER stability is reported.

Tetraarylphosphonium Cations with Excellent Alkaline-Resistant Performance for Anion-Exchange Membranes.

To realize the robust anion exchange membrane (AEM)-based water splitting modules and fuel cells, the design and synthesis of tetraarylphosphonium (TAP) cations are described as a new class of cationic building blocks that exhibit remarkable alkaline stability under harsh conditions. TAP cations with highly sterically demanding aromatic substituents were efficiently synthesized from triarylphosphine derivatives and highly reactive arynes, whose alkaline degradation proved to be suppressed dramatically by the sterically demanding substituents. In the case of bis(2,5-dimethylphenyl)bis(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)phosphonium, for example, approximately 60% of the cation survived for 27 d under the forced conditions (i.

December 2024

Tianjin Key Laboratory of Risk Assessment and Control Technology for Environment and Food Safety, Military Medical Sciences Academy, Tianjin, 300050, China. Electronic address:

The detection of ammonia (NH)gas holds significant importance in both daily life and industrial production. In this study, the NbCT/MoSe sensor was synthesized using a one-step hydrothermal method and applied for NH detection. The morphology and elemental composition of the composites were analyzed through a series of characterization techniques including XRD, TEM, SEM, and XPS, confirming the successful synthesis of NbCT/MoSe composite with the optimal mass ratio.

Biocatalysis has emerged as a green approach for efficient and sustainable production in various industries. In recent decades, numerous advancements in computational and predictive approaches, including ancestral sequence reconstruction (ASR) have sparked a new wave for protein engineers to improve and expand biocatalyst capabilities. ASR is an evolution-based strategy that uses phylogenetic relationships among homologous extant sequences to probabilistically infer the most likely ancestral sequences.

Segregation-to-integration transformation model of memory evolution.

Netw Neurosci

December 2024

Department of Cognition, Development and Education Psychology, University of Barcelona, Barcelona, Spain.

Memories are thought to use coding schemes that dynamically adjust their representational structure to maximize both persistence and efficiency. However, the nature of these coding scheme adjustments and their impact on the temporal evolution of memory after initial encoding is unclear. Here, we introduce the Segregation-to-Integration Transformation (SIT) model, a network formalization that offers a unified account of how the representational structure of a memory is transformed over time.
