Magnetic resonance plays a vital role in the aetiological diagnosis of epileptic encephalopathies, since it is capable of identifying specific aetiological patterns or patterns which are suggestive of different conditions. We review the main magnetic resonance findings that are observed in symptomatic epileptic encephalopathies.

Post-traumatic epilepsy (PTE) is a debilitating chronic outcome of traumatic brain injury (TBI). Although FTO has been reported as a possible intervention target of TBI, its precise roles in the PTE remain incompletely understood. Here we used mild or serious mice TBI model to probe the role and molecular mechanism of FTO in PTE.

Down syndrome (DS) is strongly associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD) due to APP overexpression, exhibiting Amyloid-β (Aβ) and Tau pathology similar to early-onset (EOAD) and late-onset AD (LOAD). We evaluated the Aβ plaque proteome of DS, EOAD, and LOAD using unbiased localized proteomics on post-mortem paraffin-embedded tissues from four cohorts (n = 20/group): DS (59.8 ± 4.

The long-term clinical outcomes and associated prognostic factors in contactin-associated protein-like 2 (CASPR2)-antibody diseases are unknown. A total of 75 participants with CASPR2 antibodies were longitudinally assessed for disability, quality-of-life, and chronic pain. Although most symptoms improved within 6 months of treatment, neuropathic pain and fatigue were the most immunotherapy refractory, and persisted for up to 6 years.

Background: After encephalopathy, epileptic seizures (ES) are the second most common neurologic complication after orthotopic liver transplantation (OLT) and may announce a disabling/fatal neurologic disease.
Methods: In this retrospective study, we collected clinical information from patients who underwent OLT at our institution and analyzed outcomes and potential risk factors for developing ES after OLT.
Results: Fourteen of our 376 patients (3.

Nutrient-dependent mTORC1 regulation upon amino acid deprivation is mediated by the KICSTOR complex, comprising SZT2, KPTN, ITFG2, and KICS2, recruiting GATOR1 to lysosomes. Previously, pathogenic SZT2 and KPTN variants have been associated with autosomal recessive intellectual disability and epileptic encephalopathy. We identified bi-allelic KICS2 variants in eleven affected individuals presenting with intellectual disability and epilepsy.
