Predictive model of intrahepatic collateral vessels among hepatic veins in patients with liver tumors involving the caval confluence.

Surgery

January 2025

Department of Biomedical Sciences, Humanitas University, Milan, Italy; Department of Hepatobiliary & General Surgery, IRCCS Humanitas Research Hospital, Milan, Italy. Electronic address:

Background: Communicating vessels among hepatic veins in patients with tumors invading/compressing hepatic veins at their caval confluence facilitate new surgical solutions. Although their recognition by intraoperative ultrasound has been described, the possibility of preoperative detection still remains uncertain. We aimed to develop a model to predict their presence before surgery.

Alcohol-induced liver injury is mediated via α4-containing nicotinic acetylcholine receptors expressed in hepatocytes.

Alcohol Clin Exp Res (Hoboken)

January 2025

Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, Department of Medicine, University of Louisville, Louisville, Kentucky, USA.

Background: Our previous study demonstrated that alcohol induced the expression of the α4 subunit of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChRs) in the livers of wild type mice (WT), and that whole-body α4 nAChR knockout mice (α4KO) showed protection against alcohol-induced steatosis, inflammation, and injury. Based on these findings, we hypothesized that hepatocyte-specific α4 nAChRs may directly contribute to the detrimental effects of alcohol on the liver.

Methods: Hepatocyte-specific α4 knockout mice (α4HepKO) were generated, and the absence of α4 nAChR was confirmed through PCR of genomic DNA.

Aescin ameliorates alcohol-induced liver injury. A possible implication of ROS / TNF-alpha / p38MAPK / caspase-3 signalling.

Food Chem Toxicol

January 2025

Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, Faculty of Pharmacy, Kaferelsheikh University, Kaferelsheikh, Egypt. Electronic address:

Alcoholic liver disease (ALD) is a commonly known liver disease mediated by prolonged alcohol consumption. Aescin is a triterpene saponin that can manage several conditions, including brain trauma, arthritis, venous congestion, stroke, and thrombophlebitis. Even so, studies illustrating the aescin role in ALD are scarce.

18F-FDG PET/CT Versus 18F-FAPI PET/CT in Eosinophilic Liver Infiltration.

Clin Nucl Med

January 2025

From the Department of Nuclear Medicine, Guangzhou Institute of Cancer Research, the Affiliated Cancer Hospital, Guangzhou Medical University.

A 48-year-old man presented with upper abdominal discomfort for 10 days. Abdominal contrast-enhanced CT showed multiple abnormal enhanced masses in liver, suggesting a probability of malignancies. The patient was then enrolled in a clinical trial of comparison of 18F-FDG and 18F-FAPI PET/CT in hepatic lesions.

Background: Apolipoprotein C3 (apo C3) is primarily secreted by the liver and is involved in promoting sterile inflammation and organ damage under pathological conditions. Previous studies have shown that apo C3 is abundant in the plasma exosomes of patients with aortic dissection (AD), but its specific role in AD remains unclear.

Methods And Results: In vivo, adeno-associated virus was used to knock down hepatic apo C3 expression in an AD mouse model to assess the impact of liver-derived apo C3 on the development of AD.
