Background: Short and rare episodes of atrial fibrillation (AF) are commonly detected using implanted devices (device-detected AF) in patients with prior stroke or transient ischemic attack (TIA). The effectiveness and safety of oral anticoagulation in patients with prior stroke or TIA and device-detected AF but with no ECG-documented AF is unclear.

Methods And Results: This prespecified analysis of the NOAH-AFNET 6 (Non-Vitamin K Antagonist Oral Anticoagulants in Patients With Atrial High Rate Episodes) trial with post hoc elements assessed the effect of oral anticoagulation in patients with device-detected AF with and without a prior stroke or TIA in the randomized, double-blind, double-dummy NOAH-AFNET 6 trial.

During the period of 1960s and 1970s, a new alloplastic material - Wichterle gel - was introduced in the field of plastic surgery. In 1961, a Czech scientist, prof. Otto Wichterle, had developed, along with his research team, a hydrophilic gel made of polymers, which fulfilled the high standards for prosthetic materials due to its hydrophilic, chemical, thermal and shape stability that provided a better tolerance in the body compared with other hydrophobic gels.

Great progress has been achieved on the study of hydrogels, which were presented for the first time in 1960 by Otto Wichterle and Drahoslav Lím. The two crucial properties of hydrogels, namely high water content and biocompatibility, have made hydrogels ideal compositions in the development of bioadhesives in recent years. Chondroitin sulfate (CS), a sulfated glycosaminoglycan (GAG), is distributed throughout animal bodies, including cartilage and the extracellular matrix (ECM), and it has been widely utilized in the dietary supplement and pharmaceutical industries.
