Dentists should be aware that snuff dipping or chewing is increasing in southern states and perhaps in other sections of the United States. These habits can lead to clinical leukoplakia, gingival recession, tooth abrasion, and periodontal bone destruction. The possibility also exists that a malignant transformation of leukoplakia can develop in persons who use snuff and other forms of tobacco.

Introduction: Traditional access cavity preparation involves removing the roof of the pulp chamber and smoothing the dentin bulges at the root canal orifice, thereby creating straight-line access. However, this may damage more healthy dental tissue and reduce the tooth's fracture resistance. This case series presents a novel minimally invasive endodontic protocol for one maxillary canine and four mandibular premolars, which required root canal therapy due to labial/buccal cervical decay that caused pulpitis or periapical periodontitis.

Subcutaneous emphysema is the accumulation of gas or air in loose subcutaneous connective tissue. The use of air-driven handpieces in dental procedures is a common iatrogenic cause of intraoral mucogingival barrier disruption by high-pressure air. This case report describes a 60-year-old woman who underwent prophylactic periodontal treatment with an air-abrasive device and subsequently developed severe bilateral subcutaneous emphysema, extending from the temporal region to the thoracic and mediastinal spaces.

The advancement of digital technologies, including 3-dimensional (3D) imaging and computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM), and material science has significantly transformed dentistry. Current CAD/CAM techniques incorporate both subtractive and additive (eg, 3D printing) manufacturing methods, with 3D printing offering such benefits as reduced material waste and the ability to produce complex geometries. Much research has focused on the development of hybrid materials that merge the esthetics and durability of ceramics with the high flexural strength, low abrasiveness, and intraoral repairability characteristics of resin composites.

This patient presented at a more advanced age than typically reported cases.
