Perioperative neurocognitive disorders (PND) is one of the most common postoperative complications, which can lead to a harmful impact on self-dependence, longer hospital stays, increased medical costs, morbidity, and mortality amongst older adults. Microglia can modulate synapse elimination involved in the complement component protein 1q (C1q) pathway to induce cognitive dysfunction, which is significantly improved by short chain fatty acids (SCFAs) treatment. Here we investigate the effects of SCFAs treatment on PND via mediating C1q complement pathway.

This study compared intestinal DNA phage dynamics and gut microbiota changes observed at the onset of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The study participants included 19 healthy individuals and 19 patients with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection. Significant differences were observed in the diversity of the intestinal DNA virome after the onset of COVID-19 compared with that in healthy individuals.

Background: Tongxieyaofang (TXYF) was a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) formula for the treatment of diarrhea with liver stagnation and spleen deficiency syndrome, but the potential targets and mechanisms have not been fully clarified. This study aims to explore the potential mechanisms of TXYF in alleviating diarrhea using network pharmacology and full-length 16S rRNA gene sequencing.
Methods: Network pharmacology was applied to identify bioactive compounds and potential targets involved in the role of TXYF in alleviating diarrhea.

Objective: To investigate composition of gut microbial community in a rat model of functional dyspepsia (FD) and to explore the interventional effects of Simo Tang (, SMT).
Methods: A rat model of FD was established through the tail-clamping stimulation method. The rat model of FD was assessed by the state of rats, their weight, sucrose preference rate, and intestinal propulsion rate.
