Autophagy is essential for maintaining material balance and energy circulation and plays a critical role as a regulatory mechanism in tissue regeneration. However, current studies primarily describe this phenotype, with limited exploration of its molecular mechanisms. In this study, we provided the first evidence that autophagy is required for intestinal regeneration in Apostichopus japonicus and identified a previously unrecognized regulatory mechanism involved in this process.

The present study aimed to investigate the hydrogeochemical patterns and contamination of the radiogeology, especially radon activity, related to geothermal aquifer properties and to perform a risk assessment of annual effective doses covering all hydrothermal spring attractions in Southern Thailand. Radon is an established lung carcinogen; especially longer term exposure to radioactive radon through inhalation could be a cause of lung cancer risk. Altogether 22 hydrothermal spring samples were collected from the six hydrothermal provinces in Southern Thailand in early November of 2023.

Cigarette butts are classified as plastic waste due to their composition of cellulose acetate fibers and are commonly found in beach sand. Their persistence in the environment, low biodegradability, and potential to interact with metals and metalloids during the aging process make them a significant subject of interest for research on coastal marine ecosystems. The aim of this study is to investigate the presence of metals such as hexavalent chromium Cr (VI), cadmium (Cd), and the metalloid arsenic (As) in cigarette butts (CBs), cigarette butt fibers (CBFs), and sand on a tourist beach in Cartagena, Colombia.

A massive Planktothrix rubescens bloom was observed during 2022 in the Lake Avernus, a volcanic lake located in Campania Region (Southern Italy). The cyanobacterial mass migrated, through a channel, to the near Gulf of Pozzuoli, causing the contamination of two marine sites dedicated to mussel farming, thus posing a potential risk for consumers' health. Mussel and water samples, from both the sea and the lake were collected weekly and analyzed by liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry, for identification and quantification of 10 microcystins.
