Objectives: To assess the outcomes of the tissue fixation system midurethral sling for the treatment of intrinsic sphincter deficiency.
Methods: We retrospectively studied a total of 96 intrinsic sphincter deficiency patients treated with the tissue fixation system midurethral sling at Yokohama Motomachi Women's Clinic from 2006 to 2015. We evaluated intraoperative and 1-year postoperative results. Regarding the cure rate, we divided patients into three groups: (i) patients with maximum urethral closure pressure <20 and Valsalva leak point pressure <65 combined (n = 17); (ii) patients with maximum urethral closure pressure <20 (n = 55); and (iii) patients with Valsalva leak point pressure <65 (n = 47).
Results: The median age was 63 years (range 38-89 years). The median operating time including local anesthesia was 24 min (range 12-55 min) and median blood loss was 5.0 mL (range 3-69 mL). All operations were day surgery under local anesthesia. Postoperative pain was minimal. All patients were discharged the same day. There were no intraoperative complications except one bladder perforation. There were no tape rejections. The 1-year postoperative cure rates were: 88.2% among patients with maximum urethral closure pressure <20 and Valsalva leak point pressure <65, 90.9% for patients with maximum urethral closure pressure <20, and 85.1% among patients with Valsalva leak point pressure <65.
Conclusions: The tissue fixation system midurethral sling operation is a simple, safe and effective operation for older women with intrinsic sphincter deficiency, and it can be carried out under local anesthesia.

In percutaneous pelvic trauma surgery, accurate placement of Kirschner wires (K-wires) is crucial to ensure effective fracture fixation and avoid complications due to breaching the cortical bone along an unsuitable trajectory. Surgical navigation via mixed reality (MR) can help achieve precise wire placement in a low-profile form factor. Current approaches in this domain are as yet unsuitable for real-world deployment because they fall short of guaranteeing accurate visual feedback due to uncontrolled bending of the wire.

The management of neonatal testicular torsion lacks consensus. Arguments in favor of emergency bilateral exploration and fixation include a salvage rate and the incidence of bilateral torsion. We performed a retrospective single-center analysis of all cases of neonatal torsion in our unit between 2012 and 2022 to assess whether our data supports this approach and to publish further data on a disease on which there remains a paucity.

Background: For complete disruption of the posterolateral corner (PLC) structures, operative treatment is most commonly advocated, as nonoperative treatment has higher rates of persistent lateral laxity and posttraumatic arthritis. Some studies have shown that acute direct repair results in revision rates upwards of 37% to 40% compared with 6% to 9% for initial reconstruction. In a recent study assessing the outcomes of acute repair of PLC avulsion injuries with 2 to 7 years of follow-up, patients with adequate tissue were shown to have a much lower failure rate than previously documented.

Background: Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA) procedures have become much more common in the United States in recent years, with >40,000 UKAs performed annually. However, it is estimated that 10% to 40% of UKAs fail and thus require conversion to total knee arthroplasty (TKA). In the field of total joint arthroplasty, robotic-assisted surgeries have demonstrated advantages such as better accuracy and precision of implant positioning and improved restoration of a neutral mechanical axis.

Crassulacean acid metabolism (CAM), a specialized mode of photosynthetic carbon assimilation characterized by nocturnal fixation of atmospheric CO and vacuolar malic acid storage, is found in a wide variety of vascular plant species, mainly those inhabiting water-limited environments. Identifying and characterizing diverse CAM species enhances our understanding of the physiological, ecological, and evolutionary significance of CAM photosynthesis. In this study, we examined the effect of CO elimination on chlorophyll fluorescence-based photosynthetic parameters in two constitutive CAM Kalanchoe species and six orchids.
