Iatrogenic injury to the circumflex artery (Cx) due to its close proximity to the mitral annulus is a rare but dreadful complication that can occur during mitral valve repair. The aim of our study was to compare multiple measurements of the Cx datasets, obtained by real time three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography (RT3D TEE) and corresponding measurements assessed in multi-planar three-dimensional images acquired by multidetector computed tomography (MDCT). Preoperative RT3D TEE and MDCT datasets of 25 patients who had previously undergone minimally invasive mitral valve surgery were retrospectively analyzed. The vessel diameter and the horizontal as well as vertical distances from the center of the Cx to the mitral valve annulus were measured. Horizontal as well as vertical Cx distances showed a strong correlation between measurements of RT3D TEE and MDCT whereas the measurements of the Cx diameter showed no correlation. Measurements of horizontal and vertical distances of the Cx to the mitral annulus can be performed using RT3D TEE and show good correlation with MDCT-based measurements.

This study investigated the feasibility and accuracy of real-time three-dimensional (3D) echocardiographic transilluminated imaging (TrueVue Glass) in left atrial appendage (LAA) anatomical morphology and artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted 3D automated LAA measurement (3D Auto LAA) software in the preoperative evaluation of LAA occlusion (LAAO) in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). Thirty-seven patients with AF were selected. Two-dimensional (2D) and real-time 3D transesophageal echocardiography (RT3D-TEE) were performed preoperatively, using conventional 3D, the new 3D TrueVue Glass mode, and cardiac computed tomography angiography (CCTA) to assess and type the morphology of LAA.

We reported a very rare case, a 59-year-old female whose heart myxoma was present in both atrium, the mass in biatrial was connected to each other at the oval foramen, resembling "dumbbell-like." By means of multimodality echocardiography techniques such as transthoracic echocardiography (TTE), contrast enhanced ultrasound (CEUS), and Real-time three-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography (RT-3D TEE), we have clarified the diagnosis. The patient underwent open-heart surgery to remove the biatrial myxoma which adhered to the oval fossa, with a slightly wider base and smooth lobulated surface.

Background: To quantify valvular morphological assessment, some two-dimensional (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) scoring systems have been developed to target the patients for balloon mitral valvuloplasty; however, each scoring system has some potential limitations. To achieve the best scoring system with the most features and the least restrictions, it is necessary to check the degree of overlap of these systems. Also the factors related to the accuracy of these systems should be studied.

Background: Left atrial appendage (LAA) is significantly more likely to form thrombi in patients with atrial fibrillation (AFib). Two-dimensional transesophageal echocardiography (2D TEE) is considered the gold standard for assessing and studying LAA morphology and anatomy. However, 2D TEE can only visualize one plane at any given time.
