Actinic granuloma is a rare granulomatous reaction that is more commonly seen in females and thought to occur as an autoimmune response to actinic damage of elastic tissue. We discuss a case of a patient with actinic granuloma presenting with concomitant temporal arteritis. Our case and review of the literature emphasize the association between actinic granuloma and temporal arteritis, a serious inflammatory condition that could lead to blindness if misdiagnosed.

Actinic granuloma (AG) is a rare dermatological condition with only a few dozen cases reported worldwide. Initially classified as a variant of granuloma annulare, it is now recognized as a distinct entity characterized by asymptomatic annular plaques in sun-exposed areas of the skin. The exact pathogenesis remains unclear, but it is believed to be an inflammatory response to sun damage, possibly involving injured elastic fibers.

Introduction: Actinic granuloma (AG) is a rare skin eruption thought to result from a sun-induced inflammatory response attracting giant cells, which are large, multinucleated, and inflammatory, to form granulomas and degrade surrounding elastic material. Clinically, lesions begin on sun-exposed skin as pink papules and nodules that coalesce into demarcated annular plaques with a hypopigmented center. Histologically, actinic elastosis surrounds the outer annulus ring, with histiocytes and giant cells within the raised border, and the innermost central zone is filled with minimal to absent elastic fibers.

Purpose: To report the clinical presentation, anterior segment optical coherence tomography features, treatment, and outcomes of ocular surface squamous neoplasia (OSSN) associated with pterygium.
Methods: Retrospective interventional series of 14 cases in a 28-month study period.
Results: OSSN was coexistent with pterygium ( = 14) in < 1% of all pterygia ( = 7384).
