There are several differential diagnoses for knee monoarthritis. We report a patient with recurrent episodes of knee effusion, in which the non-specific clinical condition implied several diagnostic hypotheses, therapeutic inaccuracies, and a delay in implementing adequate treatment. For more than 2 years, the patient underwent different Orthopedics and Rheumatology visits.

The use of technological environments with virtual reality (VR) techniques for the practice of arthrocentesis offers an effective and safe way to learn and improve the necessary skills to carry out a medical procedure and patient care. This article presents an interactive simulator using immersive VR, in which the participant experiences practicing clinical management and decision-making in the face of a person presenting with monoarthritis in a medical consultation. The objective with this development is for the user to acquire the competence to perform, correctly and safely, a knee arthrocentesis and to differentiate the types of synovial fluids that can be found in a joint.

Introduction: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by symmetric polyarthritis. RA is routinely treated by various systemic drugs; on the other hand, administration of intra-articular corticosteroids or different types of synovectomies can be used in case of systemic medication's failure. Chemical, radio isotopic, and surgical synovectomies are being used as therapeutic options for chronic synovitis to improve joint function.
