species are a rarely reported etiology of clinical infection with few cases described in literature. However, the prevalence of infection may be underestimated due to challenges in species identification. We describe 3 cases of species bacteremia and the unique microbiologic aspects inherent to this genus that make it particularly challenging to identify. In addition, given the unique susceptibility profile of species, we discuss the importance of fully identifying this organism when it is a suspected as a pathogen, to optimize therapy based on its distinct antibiotic resistance profile.

Habitat fragmentation increases the risk of local extinction of small reptiles: A case study on Phrynocephalus przewalskii.

Ecotoxicol Environ Saf

January 2025

Habitat fragmentation represents a multifaceted global conservation threat, exerting both direct and indirect effects on individual animals and communities. Reptiles, particularly smaller species with limited migratory abilities, are especially vulnerable to these changes. This study examines how small reptiles adapt their life history strategies in fragmented habitats and determines whether their responses are primarily due to phenotypic plasticity or genetic adaptation.

From spermatogenesis to fertilisation: the role of melatonin on ram spermatozoa.

This review presents recent findings on the effect of melatonin on ram spermatozoa. This hormone regulates seasonal reproduction in the ovine species through the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, but it also exerts direct effects on spermatogenesis, seminal quality and fertility. In the testis, melatonin stimulates blood flow to this organ, but it also appears to be involved in the differentiation of spermatogonial stem cells and the secretion of testosterone through the MT1 and MT2 receptors.

The endoperoxide scaffold is found in numerous natural products and synthetic substances of pharmaceutical interest. The main challenge to their synthetic access remains the preparation of chiral compounds due to the weakness of the peroxide bond, which limits the scope of available or applicable methods. Here, we demonstrate how peroxycarbenium species can be trapped by silylated nucleophiles with high enantioselectivities and diastereoselectivities when applicable, using a chiral imidophosphorimidate (IDPi) as a catalyst.

Reline, which is composed of choline chloride and urea in a molar ratio of 1:2, is the first and most extensively studied deep eutectic solvent (DES). In certain applications, reline is blended with organic solvents, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) in most cases, to gain improved properties. Therefore, it is crucial to have a profound understanding of the impact of DMSO on the dynamics and structures of the species in the binary mixtures.

-cycloalkenes are abundant in bioactive natural products and have been used as powerful tools in chemical biology and drug discovery. However, strategies for the modular synthesis of -cycloalkenes, especially planar-chiral medium-sized ones, with high efficiency and selectivity, still remain elusive. Herein, we report a Pd-catalyzed asymmetric [7 + 2] cyclization strategy to address this challenge.
