The characteristics of water-soluble ions in size-resolved particulate matter were investigated using ion chromatography at Shangdianzi, a regional background station of Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei. Seasonal total concentrations of ions (Na, Mg, K, Ca, NH, Cl, SO and NO) were 75.5±52.9μg/m in spring, 26.5±12.3μg/m in summer, 22.7±20.4μg/m in autumn, and 31.1±23.9μg/m in winter, respectively. The secondary ions (NO, SO and NH), mainly associated with fine particles, accounted for 84.2% in spring, 82.1% in summer, 81.5% in autumn and 76.3% in winter of all ions. Strong correlations were found between NH and SO (r=0.95, p<0.01) as well as NH and NO (r=0.90, p<0.01) in fine particles; while in coarse particles, correlations between Mg and NO (r=0.80, p<0.01), and Ca and NO (r=0.85, p<0.01) were found. The concentrations of Na, K, Mg, Ca, NH, Cl, NO, and SO were 2.02, 0.81, 0.36, 1.65, 9.58, 4.01, 18.9, and 18.4μg/m in particulate matter from southeast-derived air masses, which were typically 1.58-3.37 times higher than in northwest trajectories. Thus, concentrations of water-soluble ions at this background station were heavily influenced by regional transport of serious pollution derived from biomass burning, coal combustion, industrial and vehicle exhaust emissions from Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei.

The processing of beans begins with a particularly time-consuming procedure, the hydration of the seeds. Ultrasonic treatment (US) represents a potential environmentally friendly method for process acceleration, while near-infrared spectroscopy (NIR) is a proposedly suitable non-invasive monitoring tool to assess compositional changes. Our aim was to examine the hydration process of red kidney beans of varying sizes and origins.

The flow through the grit chamber is non-biochemically treated wastewater, which contains microorganisms mainly from the source of wastewater generation. There are limited reports on aerosol particles generated by grit chambers compared with those produced by biochemical treatment tanks. This study analyzed the fugitive characteristics of aerosol particles produced in grit chambers at nine wastewater treatment plants in three regions of China.

Sugarcane tops silage (STS), as a source of roughage for ruminants, is rich in water-soluble carbohydrate (WSC) content, which significantly affects silage quality. Citric acid (CA) is a low-cost natural antimicrobial agent that can inhibit undesirable microbes and improve silage quality. The objectives of this study were to investigate the effects of CA on the chemical composition, fermentation quality, microbial communities, and metabolic pathways of STS with high and low WSC contents before or after aerobic exposure.

In this work, we use a well-defined water-soluble macrocyclic molecule cucurbit[5]uril (CB5) to modify 2D TiCT MXene and assemble a novel high-performance adsorbent CB5-TiCT for Sr ion by density functional theory and experimental methods. The structural stabilities of two distinct types of CB5-TiCT (T = F, O and OH) complexes, i.e.

Water-soluble and biocompatible protein carbon dots (P-CDs) were simply prepared from egg white by a rapid one-step neutralization heat reaction. Unexpectedly, the thus-fabricated P-CDs could present excitation-dependent tunable fluorescence that could be quenched specifically by Fe and Fe ions with obvious color changes. A high-throughput fluorimetric platform was thereby developed by coating the P-CDs onto a capillary array for detection of total iron ions in fish blood samples, with a linear concentration range of 0.
