We present new limits on exotic keV-scale physics based on 478 kg d of Majorana Demonstrator commissioning data. Constraints at the 90% confidence level are derived on bosonic dark matter (DM) and solar axion couplings, Pauli exclusion principle violating (PEPV) decay, and electron decay using monoenergetic peak signal limits above our background. Our most stringent DM constraints are set for 11.8 keV mass particles, limiting g_{Ae}<4.5×10^{-13} for pseudoscalars and (α^{'}/α)<9.7×10^{-28} for vectors. We also report a 14.4 keV solar axion coupling limit of g_{AN}^{eff}×g_{Ae}<3.8×10^{-17}, a 1/2β^{2}<8.5×10^{-48} limit on the strength of PEPV electron transitions, and a lower limit on the electron lifetime of τ_{e}>1.2×10^{24}  yr for e^{-}→ invisible.

Article Synopsis
  • This letter proposes a new method for identifying confining dark sectors at the LHC through the detection of semi-visible jets resulting from collisions involving dark quarks from a hidden sector.
  • It explains how these semi-visible jets can produce non-isolated photons and stable/unstable dark bound states, which may not align with current search strategies at the LHC.
  • The authors suggest using a deep neural network to differentiate these exotic jets from background noise by analyzing their unique substructure, allowing for potential discoveries of heavy bosons with masses up to 5 TeV using data from the LHC's Run 2.

We propose a new approach to search for light dark matter (DM), with keV-GeV mass, via inelastic nucleus scattering at large-volume neutrino detectors such as Borexino, DUNE, Super-K, Hyper-K, and JUNO. The approach uses inelastic nuclear scattering of cosmic-ray boosted DM, enabling a low-background search for DM in these experiments. Large neutrino detectors, with higher thresholds than dark matter detectors, can be used, since the nuclear deexcitation lines are O(10)  MeV.

Probing hidden leptonic scalar portals using the NA64 experiment at CERN.

Eur Phys J C Part Fields

October 2024

Bogoliubov Laboratory of Theoretical Physics, JINR, 141980 Dubna, Russia.

In this study, we demonstrate the potential of the NA64 experiment at CERN SPS to search for New Physics processes involving transitions after the collision of 100 GeV electrons with target nuclei. A new Dark Sector leptonic portal in which a scalar boson could be produced in the lepton-flavor-changing bremsstrahlung-like reaction, , is used as benchmark process. In this work, we develop a realistic Monte Carlo simulation of the NA64 experimental setup implementing the differential and total production cross-section computed at exact tree-level and applying the Weiszäcker-Williams phase space approximation.

Extreme-Mass-Ratio Inspirals in Ultralight Dark Matter.

Phys Rev Lett

September 2024

CENTRA, Departamento de Física, Instituto Superior Técnico-IST, Universidade de Lisboa-UL, Avenida Rovisco Pais 1, 1049 Lisboa, Portugal.

Previous works have argued that future gravitational-wave detectors will be able to probe the properties of astrophysical environments where binaries coalesce, including accretion disks, but also dark matter structures. Most analyses have resorted to a Newtonian modeling of the environmental effects, which are not suited to study extreme-mass-ratio inspirals immersed in structures of ultralight bosons. In this Letter, we use relativistic perturbation theory to consistently study these systems in spherical symmetry.

Searches for new physics below twice the electron mass with GERDA.

Eur Phys J C Part Fields

September 2024

Institute of Physics, Jagiellonian University, Cracow, Poland.

Unlabelled: A search for full energy depositions from bosonic keV-scale dark matter candidates of masses between 65 and 1021 keV has been performed with data collected during Phase II of the GERmanium Detector Array (Gerda) experiment. Our analysis includes direct dark matter absorption as well as dark Compton scattering. With a total exposure of 105.
